CrazyBeltLady's Shop Policies
I started making BeltArt in 2004 on a fluke. I had used belts as part of the decor in a small bathroom in my home, and I had some left over after the bathroom was finished. (Ask, I'll send you photos!) When I thought about what I could do with the extra belts, BeltArt was born! I have since made about 100 different designs. The most celebrated is in the shape of a cross and belongs to the band Third Day and hangs in their recording studio in Atlanta, GA.
I find my belts everywhere: Yard Sales, Thrift Stores, Ebay, and friends save them for me. I've had people ask me to use "their belts" to create a piece of art. I've made pieces in color schemes to match a room. I've covered a whole wall in a bedroom with a plaid woven of belts. Now if I can learn to sell them, I'll be in good shape!
My favorite work is when someone brings me belts that are special to them to make into something new. I recently had a lady bring me her father's and mother's belts who both passed away last year. We made a beautiful leather footstool from them for her hearth. Another family had personally needlepointed belts that didn't fit anymore. We made those into gorgeous barstools. And those Harley-Davidson people are very attached to their old belts, too. They make really cool backless barstools. Fun furniture ideas, with a very personal meaning to the family.
I accept most major credit cards and, in special circumstances, checks. I'm always happy to take cash. The buyer is responsible for shipping, and KY sales tax if you ship to KY. Custom orders are 50% upfront deposit.
BeltArt is usually large and very heavy. I have created some shipping profiles, and guessed at the cost of shipping, but my preference, and I think YOUR preference, would be to use my ACTUAL shipping costs. The problem with that is it can take me several days to find out. I will amend these prices as I become more familiar with the shipping prices. I am more than willing to discuss shipping options, and often travel in the Eastern part of the US. Perhaps I can deliver it. Contact me. Shipping outside the US is ALWAYS available. But you will have to wait until I can get the actual cost of shipping calculation. I am happy to admit, I am new to this business. And I know with such heavy artwork, shipping costs are going to affect your value for your purchase. I will work hard to make sure we find a reasonable method and rate for shipping that suits both of us.
Refunds and Exchanges
I stand behind my work, completely. If you experience a problem with a piece of furniture or art, I will do my best to rectify the situation. I may need help with the shipping expenses, but I will happily repair or replace any piece which needs attention.
Additional Policies and FAQs
www.CrazyBeltLady.com Creating finely crafted furniture using Recycled Re-purposed UpCycled Leather Belts. Each Piece is totally unique. Some vintage belts, many used, some new, mostly like-new belts are used in my art. Each belt has a texture and character of it's own. I carefully blend them into a rich tapestry of color--sometimes subtle, sometimes bold. I blend the suedes, and satiny textures, punched and tooled leather, rivets, studs and grommets, woven and braided strands, animal prints and metallics, smooth and intricate, vintage and new. Together, they blend into a tapestry of texture and color, yet provide a strong, durable and comfortable seating surface.
All my furniture is treated with an oil and water protectant to protect it from stains. And all my work is Satisfaction Guaranteed. If you aren't satisfied, I will find a way to make it right. I encourage you to use ZOOM on the pictures, it really helps you see the textures of each weaving. If you don't see the colors you need, drop me a note. I can make one to make any color scheme, very affordably. If never hurts to ASK!
Many of my orders are for custom work. If you have special colors or woods that you would like to order, I'm just a phone call away. 859-227-4313 Many people have belts in the closet or drawer that are special or have sentimental value. Dad's old belt, or the belt mom needlepointed for you, or the belt your kid out grew. Or when someone passes away, the family may bring me the belts to create a memento. Even the belt you wore to a special event or party. Many of my custom orders are for clients who want to design a piece with those belts in the design. A footstool, a piano bench, a chair or a barstool. I only need a few belts to get started, I can fill in the remainder with my BeltArt supply, and match your color scheme ideas. Many clients even have a stool or chair they want re-furbished. That's a possibility, too. Just ask. There are no silly questions, because I realize you haven't seen this type of furniture before.
Much of my inventory is not posted online, but is on consignment in shops all over the region. I may have something you need but not have it in my Etsy store. Just ask. If I don't have it, I can usually make it with in a few weeks.
Finally, I NEED BELTS! If you have belts to share, or even sell, please let me know. I've even done a little fundraiser for a local church. They gathered decent leather belts and I paid them $1.00 each. Win-win for me and the church.
A few notes:
Cleaning: I love Swiffer Dusters! They work great to get dust off many cracks and crevices of the art.
WALL ART: Belt Buckles on my wall art are NOT glued down. I leave them loose and let them flop around. When the piece is hung on a wall, most will automatically lay back against the wall naturally. The ones that don't just give the piece more character. If I had to guess, I would say 1 in 40 does not lay flat. It's not usually a problem. Being able to see the glue on 40 belt buckles is much worse aethetically, IMHO.
CHAIRS: Furniture I purchase are not NEW. Before I weave the seat of any chair, the frame of the chair is refurbished. That can mean refinishing, repainting, touch-up work, repairs, or any number of things. I don't ever suggest that these chairs are new. They have character and life to them which is part of the beauty of the chair. If you are looking for a brand new chair frame which has only been under your own backside, I CAN do that. Call me and we will discuss options. ;-)
Finally, Leather care: The belts I use are USED. Most are "like new" but I do incorporate some belts into each piece that SHOW wear and tear. You will see belts with marks that show wear, so don't expect pristine belts. Usually two belts in each weaving will be obviously worn. You will also see strings here and there. It's part of my technique, but does not affect the strength of the leather or sturdiness of the weave. (I can tell you more, just ask.)
Leather is treated with water and stain protectant and should be retreated once or twice a year for conditioning.
