A Meant to be Maker
With color, texture and patterns being among some of my favorite things, knitting is a natural fit for me. As a young girl, I was mesmerized by watching my grandma create beautiful lace doilies with fine string on tiny crochet hooks or the click clack of her knitting needles making slippers; her hands always seemed to move effortlessly, beautifully. First my grandma taught me the basics of crochet, of which she was the queen, but then the real magic happened, she taught me the basics of knitting. I will never forget the day my grandma handed me a pair of blue size 8 aluminum knitting needles (that I still have) and a ball of navy blue yarn and I cast on my first stitches. I could only knit straight rows, but I was in love. Eventually my knitting evolved; I devoured books and watched online tutorials to teach myself more complex stitches and methods of knitting and am still learning new things all of the time. I taught myself how to deconstruct stitches and patterns in order to fix mistakes and eventually began writing my own original patterns.
In early 2012 I needed to leave my job due to chronic pain and what would be the start of many different illnesses and weird things. Being a busy body and and a creative, I soon became bored out of my mind, so I started Creating with Sticks; this was a way to work, but on my body's terms, from home. (It wouldn't be until July of 2018 that I was finally diagnosed with hEDS or hypermobile Ehlers-Danlos Syndrome, a rare systematic, degenerative connective tissue disease that a person is born with; I was 40 before I was diagnosed. I am still lucky compared to those who are diagnosed too late or not at all.) My little shop took off, but still it was a dizzy start. I have so many things that I enjoy doing along with knitting and dyeing yarn, that it was hard to keep up and I realized I needed more of a focus. Knitting and fiber are my true loves, so I decided to bring you high quality notions, tools, yarns, fibers and others supplies at affordable prices.
One of the most important things to me is a diverse, welcoming community. I want all to feel safe in my environment, in my shop, on any of my media or pages, regardless of who you are. We are all unique and creative, beautiful beings in our own ways and should be able to express ourselves without fear of judgement.
Owner, Maker, Designer
I have the hots for fiber, wood and texture; oh, and love to knit and create with my hands! I also have a thing for color, so dyeing yarn comes naturally to me. Having a chronic illness that involves pain, creating is also therapeutic most days.
Sells an item to me at wholesale price. I create the branding and packaging.

A FEW NOTES ON MY YARN
-All yarn is hand-painted or hand-dyed in small batches or sometimes even
one of a kind colorways. Please order enough yarn for your project at one
time to ensure it comes from the same dye lot. If you need more yarn than
what is listed, please contact me to see if a custom order on that colorway
is possible. As always with hand-dyed yarn, it is recommended when multiple
skeins, that you alternate skeins every other row or so.
-Speckles, Spots, Random Colors and Pooling- Hand-painted and dyed yarn
is created to be unique and random, sometimes uneven dye distribution will
occur. Variegated colors may pool depending on the length of rows or
repeats and random spots of dye may appear here and there. This is the
beauty of hand-painted and hand-dyed yarn, buyer beware. I try not to
create long color repeats in order to avoid pooling, but sometimes it will
-Each skein of yarn is reskeined after the dyeing/drying process, this ensures
that any knots there may be are found and I deal with them in the winding
process, not you. This process also allows for you to see what the yarn
actually looks like in its ready-to-use state, not with the colors all blocked
-Yarn winding service- Yarn will be wound into balls/cakes free of charge at
customer request. Please select this option from the drop down menu
when purchasing yarn.
-Garment Care- Although many of my yarns are considered superwash, not
all acid dyes live up to this and even superwash yarn can deteriorate over
time. I recommend washing all hand-painted and hand-dyed yarn
separately, by hand, with a mild wool wash and cool water; this will keep the
item looking like new and prevent any accidents, just in case the dye would
happen to bleed. Dye bleed is rare and occurs mainly in darker colors, but
may occur in any color, especially if washed in warm water.
-Yarn is hand-painted and stored in a smoke-free, pet friendly environment.
I have a husband, teenage daughter and two dogs, but never fear, when the
yarn is out and it is dye time, they all run far, far away. All yarn is stored in
plastic containers with locking lids.
-Wholesale- Wholesale orders are available. If you are a retailer and would
like to stock Creating with Sticks yarn, stitch markers or other items in your
yarn shop, please send me a message for details.
Any upgrades, extra insurance, rush delivery, or delivery confirmation will be the responsibility of the customer. Please note, once your package arrives at the Post Office, it is unfortunately out of my hands; if you are worried about damage or loss of items, please choose to have your item shipped via Priority Mail or purchase insurance to cover the replacement of your purchase; Priority Mail Service includes a minimum of $50.00 of insurance with purchase.
Your order will always be safely wrapped and packaged ready for gifting; special messages are available by request.
