The story of Creations from the Sand

While on a girl’s weekend to Daytona Beach, Gina noticed the resort had a “Magic Milk Island Art” sand box. She became intrigued and each of her companions engaged in the sand box experience. It was so much fun! They each used their own hand print and created a memorable souvenir that they still treasure from their special weekend.

About a year and a half later, Gina was again in Daytona Beach with one of her friends who had shared in the sand box experience. They remembered the fun they had creating their own beach art. Gina jokingly said to her friend, “I think that is what I would like to do someday…Have a sand box kiosk set up on the beach!”

Ironically, Gina and Steve had been doing some sole searching. They had both run successful businesses in the past. The kids were now grown. It was time to have a little fun and make some positive changes in their lives and career goals. The love of the water, the beach and the salt air was a driving force for future change, but what could they do together that would get them closer to the beach?

Gina remembered a business card that had been given to her from the “Magic Milk Island Art” representative and pulled it out. She told Steve, “This is probably a crazy idea, but what do you think about this?” They went to the website and within minutes became very excited about the possibilities. The next day, they met with Ashley Willis and became the proud owners of “Creations from the Sand”.

Steve and Gina are beginning their 3rd season of working in their sandbox and still loving every minute of it. It doesn’t feel like a job! Every day they get to meet and work with fun people who enjoy creating their special beach memory.

Welcome to Creations from the Sand!

We began opened our business 2 years ago at the Hawaiian Inn in Daytona Beach Shores and the Islander Beach Resort in New Smyrna Beach. We have and still do thoroughly enjoy working with our guests who are on vacation and love creating their own beach art memory.

During the past 2 years, we have had many people ask if we have a retail store where they could just buy pieces and our answer was always, “No”. We have also had many people just purchase the products that we have on display. With this in mind, we thought perhaps there would be a way to bring the beach to everyone that is looking. Therefore, it is our pleasure to provide you with our unique sand box experience.

We take pride in our work and strive to provide you with a quality piece of art work. You may purchase items already created or design and create your own special piece. All we need to know is your color scheme, your message or saying and theme and we will create your art according to your request. You may be as involved in the process as you would like to be.

All pieces are completely hand made. We use a clean sand, shells, colored shells, various colors of sea glass, terrazzo glass, charms and bedazzled jewels.
Please join us on Facebook to obtain other ideas and see how much fun we have!

We look forward to working with you and helping you create your own special beach art.

Additional policies and FAQs
FAQ's:

Q: Do you do custom orders?
A: Yes, we specialize in customizing the orders per your taste, colors, scheme and lettering.

Q: Are these pieces durable?
A: Yes, they are very durable, but like most things, if they drop, they will more than likely break or chip.

Q: Can this beach art go outside?
A: Yes, they will hold up outside. However, if they are in the direct rain, over time, the rain will pelt off the sand. They do wonderfully on covered patios and porches.

Q: What is the up keep? Do I need to do anything to preserve it?
A: There is no real up keep. Your artwork will last as long as you do not drop it. If over time it seems to dull, you can spray it with a clear enamel - it will bring it back to life.

Q: Will the sand come off of the artwork?
A: All of our pieces are created from the sand. They are properly cleaned and sealed, however, there may be a little sand residue at first. This is completely normal and will dissipate over time.

Q: Do you use beach sand?
A: No, we do not. We use a clean sand that is purchased.

Q: What do you use to make it stick together?
A: We use a specialty molding plaster.

Q: How long will they last?
A: They will last for years and years.

Q: Can you eat them?
A: Nope - they are not edible. (Believe it or not, we have had this question many times. LOL)
