Announcement My jewelry is made using quality materials: Swarovski, Czech glass, semiprecious gemstones, etc. to create unique pieces such as earrings, leather wrap, men's jewelry, bridal jewelry, necklaces, bracelets and more. I currently have pieces created using turquoise that I hand-selected from both Sleeping Beauty and Kingman turquoise mines in Arizona. As I stated above, I use only quality materials. Some additional materials used in my creations are lucite, pearls, fine metals, vintage beads and buttons, dichroic glass beads, handblown glass beads, lampwork beads, one of a kind beads, charms and accents and genuine coral and other shells. I take pride in all of my work resulting in gorgeous, one of a kind pieces. I love filling custom orders as well. I hope you find my jewelry to be as unique and special as I do. Designing & creating jewelry is one of my passions!
I design & handcraft jewelry in my home studio in the mountains of Northern California. I have been doing jewelry as a hobby for over 35 years and feel blessed to be able to share my creations with others. I gladly accept custom orders! If you see anything that you would like in a different color, size, etc., please feel free to contact me! I will always try to create a piece that someone has in mind but cannot find. Unique, one of a kind and in style are some of my main goals when creating each new piece.
I use several different materials in my creations. Following is information and care on some of my most commonly used materials and creations:
Sterling Silver: a mixture of pure silver and another metal, usually copper, that gives the silver strength. The standard is at least 92.5% silver, hence the .925 stamp seen on most sterling silver items.
Hill Tribe Silver: purer than sterling silver at 96% to 98% pure silver. Hill Tribe Silver is made by the Hill Tribes in Thailand.
Rajasthani Silver: from the renowned silversmiths of the Rajasthani region of India, these are handcrafted beads and components that are skillfully created from sterling silver, then finely polished to a smooth luster.
Silver-Plated: a thin coating of sterling silver is put over another less valuable metal.
Gold: a higher number of karats mean a higher quality piece of jewelry. The karat is a very old measure of how much gold is in an alloy, or gold blend. A measure of 1 Karat is where there is 1 part pure gold and 23 parts metal alloy-or 4% gold. So 24k is 100% pure gold, 10k is 37%, 14k is 58% and 18k is 75%.
Gold Vermeil: sterling silver that has been gold-plated, usually with 22k or 24k gold. To be considered vermeil, the gold must be at least 2.5 micrometers thick. Vermeil can be found in different colors, including yellow, white, pink and tri-color. Vermeil will last for many years without tarnishing and without the gold plate wearing away with proper care.
Gold-Filled: gold is permanently bonded to an alloy base that will not flake or chip. The gold must make up a minimum of 1/20 of the total weight. Usually made with 14k gold, it is hard wearing and should last as long as solid 14k gold jewelry.
Gold-Plated: An electric current applies a thin layer of gold onto a base metal such as steel or brass. Depending on the process used, gold-plated jewelry may eventually wear as the metal below the layer of gold begins to show through, ruining the illusion.
Dichroic Glass: glass containing multiple micro-layers of metals or oxides which give the glass dichroic optical properties. The main characteristic of dichroic glass is that it has a particular transmitted color and a completely different reflected color, as certain wavelengths of light either pass through or are reflected. This causes an array of color to be displayed. The colors shift depending on the angle of view.
Larimar: also called "Stefilia's Stone", is a rare blue variety of pectolite, or a rock composed largely of pectolite, an acid silicate hydrate of calcium and sodium, found only in the Dominican Republic, in the Caribbean. Its coloration varies from white, light-blue, green-blue to deep blue. Although pectolite is found in many locations, none have the unique volcanic blue coloration of larimar. This blue color, distinct from that of other pectolites, is the result of copper substitution for calcium. Quality grading is according to coloration and the typical mineral crystal configuration in the stone. Larimar also comes in green and even with red spots, brown strikes etc. due to other matters and / or oxidation. But the more intense the blue, and the contrasts in the stone, the higher and rarer is the quality. The blue color is photosensitive and fades with time if exposed to too much light and heat.
