Founded in 2003, Creative Crafthouse is a small family business and woodworking shop based in Hudson, Florida. We are the original makers of the Penny Drop Game along with hundreds of heirloom-quality wooden logic puzzles and tabletop games. Created by David Janelle and operated today by Phil, Pete, and Deb Janelle along with the Creative Crafthouse team, we design, cut, assemble, package, and ship wooden brain teasers, puzzles, and games from our Florida woodshop.
Preserving the History and Tradition of Puzzle Design
We believe that the world's most fascinating puzzles and games deserve to be experienced and enjoyed by both current and future generations and not lost to history. We have dedicated our workshop to preserving the tradition of mechanical puzzles by hand-making legendary designs so they can be experienced by new generations. We take pride in hand-making these works to keep the legacy of designers such as Stewart Coffin, Martin Gardner, Simon Nightingale, and Dr. Richard Hess alive. Whether we are hand-cutting the Calibron 12, Martin’s Menace, Outback, or the Cruiser, we ensure these historically significant challenges are built with the precision and respect.
Our Workshop Process
Everything we do is a hybrid of high-precision math, technology, and traditional woodworking. We use CO2 lasers for the accuracy required in mechanical brain teasers, but we finish and assemble every puzzle by hand. We work with premium hardwoods such as, Cherry, Maple, Walnut, and Oak, as well as Red Grandis and Mahogany, to ensure the tactile weight and feel of a handmade puzzle or game.
Personalized Gifts & Wholesale
Because we run our own machines in our Florida workshop, we offer custom laser engraving to personalize your puzzles. It’s why people come to us for personalized retirement gifts, graduation keepsakes, and corporate awards.
