About

How traffic jams turned me into a sculptor

I used to live in Los Angeles. Spending hours on the freeway getting nowhere finally led Meridee (my wife) and me to pack up our stuff and move to the sticks.
The sticks turned out to be Santa Fe, New Mexico.
We were able to leave Los Angeles thanks to email.
We no longer needed to be anywhere near the people we worked for. We draw storyboards for advertisers, and those people were getting more spread out, all over the country.

So we moved. And in our new home, between stints of furious scribbling we ventured out to visit the hundreds of galleries that fill nearly all of the buildings in town.

Meridee, already an accomplished painter, got extra fuel in her tank to raise the bar another notch or two.

For me it was sculpture that popped my cork. There were haystacks of bronze all over town. And buried in them were a few pieces that really got me inspired to give it a go.
Since I draw for a living, the technical part of sculpting came quite naturally. After all, drawing is all about describing 3 dimensional forms in 2 dimensions. You have to understand the 3 dimensional forms before you can do that. So if anything, describing 3 dimensional forms in 3 dimensions is just one less complication to worry about!

Animals are just amazing. I've always loved them.
And my storyboards, even the ones I'm most proud of, are destined to end up in the trash.

Bronze, on the other hand, tends to stick around for a bit.

Mmmm... so there I had it. I would come up with ways to sculpt critters I found interesting or fun, and then cast them in bronze. If I was lucky, some others might like them enough to put them into galleries and I could make more.

As luck would have it they did, and so I made more.
And then I discovered Etsy, which has been great, so I've kept making more still!

Hopefully I can keep at it because it sure is fun!
Thanks for stopping by, I hope you enjoy your stay in Critterville!

Hello, and thank you for visiting CritterVille, the home of some of my smaller bronzes.
Since bronze castings of any given creature come from the same mold all of castings will be essentially identical, although since casting and patina application is a craft, there will always be some minor variations (you probably wouldn't be able to notice any differences, I hardly ever do!).
This makes each casting somewhat unique, although to all intents and purposes they look the same.
The pictures used to represent each piece are typical, though not necessarily the exact same piece you'll receive.
Shoot me a message if you have any questions.

Payment
All payments must be made through Paypal unless you prefer to send a check, in which case, send me a message to say you'd like to pay by check (made payable to my incorporated name, which I'll tell you then). Your item will ship once your check clears.

If you commit to buying an item, you have 3 days to make a payment through Paypal. If I have not received a payment within 3 days, I will relist the item and it will be available for purchase again.
Shipping
Most of the pieces listed have shipping profiles based on size and weight of the box they travel inside.

International shipping will of course be more. In addition to the shipping cost charged, you may be charged by your government various amounts of customs duty or tax depending on where you live, and possibly even additional handling fees by your country's mail handler, such as 9 pounds sterling (so I'm told at the time of writing) in the UK for handling the VAT.

I'm not sure how Etsy calculates shipping if you buy multiple items. If it seems a bit steep (and it could be less by fitting more items in a single box) let me know before you make your purchases and we'll see what can be done.
I usually ship 1-3 days after payment is received or cleared (if a check).
Refunds and Exchanges
Nobody has wanted to return anything yet, but if you do let me know and we'll see what can be done.
I am dedicated to providing only quality work at as good a price as I can manage.
Additional policies and FAQs
Large orders for corporate gift giving etc will need some lead time to accommodate, so please contact me to discuss.
