Announcement   Hi and welcome to my Crocheted by Kirby etsy store.
I specialize in making hand crocheted whimsical hats (for adults and some children) and hand painted trees on such things as t-shirts and unique guest books.

I have been crocheting since I was in high school and over the years I have designed some amazing hats, hoods, and fingerless gloves. Everything I crochet come straight out of my head. I can not read a pattern to save my life and often stair at a few pictures of the actual animal, fruit/vegetable, or superhero I am basing a hat/hood on and it will just come to me.

But because of this strangely wonderful gift each one of my hats, hoods, and other crocheted goodness are all one of a kind like the people wearing them. Yes two hats like two people may look similar but they are not exactly the same.

I first learned to basics of painting trees in 3rd grade art class. My art teacher took my whole class out onto the playground with our paper and pencils and say us down next to a large oak tree. She then explained how the tree grew and the best method for breaking it down to draw it. I took to this like a duck to water. I loved drawing trees!

As the years went on I found that drawing trees became my go to doodle. They were everywhere; on the sides of my papers, on my note books, and even on my hands (my dad hated it but I did it all through high school). Shortly after high school I started making canvas tote bags and painting trees on them and gifting them to friends.

I never thought of painting t-shirts until I was trying to think of the best gift for my husband (when we were dating). I painted my first t-shirt for him; a dark gray shirt with a silhouette tree.

After that I was so inspired to help all shapes and sizes of people have their very own piece of wearable art.

Thank you and happy shopping!

About

I make wearable art for people all shapes and sizes!

It all started with my grandmother..... She was an amazing woman. She could crochet, knit, and sew. I wanted to be just like her. She tried for years to teach me. First knitting; that didn't go over well (I can't handle the two sticks). Then crocheting; I didn't take to it right away (I'm left handed and she was right). Finally sewing; that I took to fast.
It wasn't until the arthritis and the old age really started to hinder my grandmother's ability to create that my crocheting gift really developed. It was like I was picking up where she left off.
One day I got it in my head that I was going to give crocheting another try. I got one of those books from JoAnn's and none of the institutions made any sense (I'm dyslexic so some times I have issue) but the pictures did (make sense). I stared at those three pictures until a light bulb went off. It all clicked and I could crochet.
It was not perfect but over time with more and more practice I got better and better.
I never did learn how to read a pattern so I figure out everything on my own and make (what others have said) some of the most amazing things.
Still to this day I use my grandmother's hooks. I even have my favorite hook (a boye N hook) tattooed on my arm of my crocheting hand.

    Husband/support/sometimes Model

I am one of the luckiest girls ever that I have such a supportive husband. He will stand in what feels like endless craft store lines with me, model my hats or shirts when I need to see them on a person, and so much more.
