Yarn Yarn was established in 2008. We are an inspirational and ethical online yarn and craft supply shop based in the UK selling eco-friendly and recycled yarns handmade by women's co-operatives and small communities in rural India that we work directly with hands on.

All our yarns are made from waste leftover from the sari mills in India. Waste silk and fibres spun into magical and unique yarns for our customers.

At Yarn Yarn it is important that our creative endeavours have an ethical ideology. Why would we not? Look at these upcycled yarns with such harmonious colour spectrums, why would we not want to use these in our fibre artworks? We as a supplier and you as a customer are helping to alleviate poverty. We want to give back to these communities, use up waste and also keep ancient crafting traditions alive.

With every purchase our customers make, with every sale of our yarns and hand crafted products we aim to support and provide sustainable living within these communities. In many parts of India spinning yarns is their only source of income. By selling these yarns we give directly back to these communities. We want to create a sustainable cycle of employment and women's empowerment. If we continue to buy these products these villages continue to survive. The artisans that make your products have a quality of life and do not need to go to the cities in search of work that doesn't exist and live in slums.

Within our business model we have been helping to fund a local school where the children of these talented artisans attend. We have been supplying them with teaching resources, paper, pens, maps of the world and more. Before this they had none. Not even a pencil!

I hope you find inspiration within my shop and please contact me any time, I am always happy to talk about yarn, crochet, wool and fiber art!

Best wishes
Julie

About

Handmade ethical yarns by our women's co-ops we work with in Rural deprived areas of India.

Welcome to my lovely yarn shop. I work directly with women and families in deprived areas of India producing ethical yarns out of waste and recycled materials destined for landfill. These yarns include sari silk ribbon, sari silk yarn, organic silks also known as peace silk, nettle, hemp and more. I work with these women developing many of my own colours. The raw materials are mainly left over from sari manufacturing. They are taken and handspun into beautiful yarns for knitting, crochet, weaving, rug making, jewelry making and arts and crafts. All are custom handmade for Yarn Yarn by women's co-operatives. My love affair I have for the natural world and my trips to India are what inspires my work. The women and the families I work with are humbling. They are an inspiring bunch of magical artisans and by purchasing these yarns we are supporting their livelihood and enabling them to send their children to school. My yarns are unique, magical and unmatched. Each skein of my beautiful and sometimes unusual yarns are exclusive and one of a kind. I truly believe that each skein of my art yarn tells its own story and provides countless crafting options for the fiber artist.

Not only are these yarns both exotic and unique, the women that produce them really do deserve our support. Please see my website www.yarnyarn.co.uk for an explanation of the production of such yarns and images of the women who make them and how we fund schools with our profits.

You just need to hold these remarkable yarns and fibers in your hands and your imagination runs away with you. I hope you have enjoyed visiting my shop. Please contact me if you have any questions at all!

I hope you enjoy the bold colors of the yarns, the unusual processes of production and the eco friendly nature of them. Check out my website www.yarnyarn.co.uk for information on the production processes, images and more.

Namaste

xx
