About

What a Crock!

Once upon a time . . . wait. No. Currently, there are two brothers who decided to start a shirt company. It all began when things started to end. Younger brother Kris was a pressman for a large printing company who was laid off when the plant closed. About six months later older brother Kurt, a multimedia / graphic designer for a crown corporation, was laid off due to outsourcing. Poop. Total crock of...

In actuality, it didn't really start off like 'once upon a time' in a fairy tale kind of way. Oh yes, it happened, but being laid off is not a happy fairy tale thing to have happen in your mid-thirties when you have a mortgage, kids to feed, etc. It was a complete shock and not part of the greater plan, especially when you come to realize your time working hard for someone else came to an end because of the bottom line. It's like being thrown off the team and getting kicked in the balls. The kicked in the balls part is equivalent to the embarrassment of being let go. It messes with your confidence.

One day, after a few months of stressing about how to get back up again, Kurt and his wife were telling Kris some rough plans to start a t shirt design company, bringing to life Kurt's illustrations. Many stories have been told about folks who have been laid off and started from the bottom, utilizing their skills and passions to build something that provides happiness and job satisfaction. What is missing from those stories is the fact that at the bottom, it looks impossible. Doors look closed. Walls are everywhere.

In that conversation Kris opened the first door. "You draw it, you run it, I'll print it".

Now, that is a Crock of Shirt.

Kurt designs all the art. Typically, we come up with the ideas together but it is Kurt that brings them to life

Standing in the hot production room printing shirts does not bother Kris, he likes to be alone with the music loud and the press flying.

I attempt to keep this show running. Three family members trying to start a tshirt empire can be taxing!
