The journey to launching Croft Crochet
At 40 years old, myself and my husband decided to close our online business and do something different. My husband went into employment and I decided to go back to full time education. I started training to be a counsellor, the training was tough but I learned the importance of self-care and creativity which was fundamental in keeping myself busy when the whole world shut down.
At that time I decided to pick up a crochet hook (which I hadn't done since childhood) and get creative. I watched numerous crochet videos and got everything wrong a million times. I'm very determined, so I kept going until I figured it out. I have a need to learn new things constantly so alongside taking a counselling degree and volunteering as a counsellor for 2 organisations, I taught myself more and more crocheting techniques. By the time I completed my counselling training there were completed crochet projects stored everywhere in my house. I gifted a lot of things to family and friends and then they started to run out of space too.
People said I should try selling my pieces, but I lacked confidence on social media platforms and believed my work wouldn't be seen without a huge social media following. My daughter offered me a small section on her own website, however, her customer base is very different to mine so the sales were very slow. Eventually I decided to set myself up on the socials and open my own Etsy store, so here I am, I hope people enjoy my work as much as I enjoy making it.
