Across The Creek Studio
I grew up in rural Mississippi, nurtured in art and all sorts of crafts by my parents and my large extended family. In college I was exposed to clay while pursuing a degree in Secondary Education/Art and the clay captured my heart. However, with no pottery studio available after college, I concentrated on teaching high school art while continuing to dabble in painting, stained glass and knitting.
After a few years of teaching, I became a law enforcement analyst with the US Postal Inspection Service and was assigned to Birmingham Alabama. By then our children were grown and my husband, Danny, was nearing retirement, so we made the move to Alabama and I was able to set up a pottery studio in our walk-out basement.
I started my business in order to sell my pottery online and at art shows while I continued to work full-time at my day job. After he retired, my husband, Danny, joined me in the pottery studio. He does hand building and is the official clay-prep guy and all-around handyman. He also creates his own beautiful horseshoe art and bottle trees.
Finally, I was able to retire from my day job in 2016 and we moved home to Mississippi, to 12 beautiful acres we inherited from Danny's parents. Unfortunately, the property had no house nor studio, so we spent almost a year building a house with an attached studio and I became a full-time potter/artist.
I enjoy making both functional and decorative stoneware pieces, anything from mugs to garden bells. It's my hope that my customers will use their pieces in their daily lives and will come to know the joy of using handmade pottery.
Around the web
I make decorative and functional pottery. Using clean, simple lines I strive to create forms that are beautiful to look at and a pleasure to use.
Danny is my hubby of 40+ years and assists with many things in the studio such as preparing clay and unloading kilns. He also creates beautiful horseshoe art, which complements my pottery nicely. We really enjoy working in the studio together.
I welcome all questions and inquiries.
