Turning love for wood and art into a business.

Cross Woodcraft is run by myself (Michael) and my son (Michael Jr.). For many years I have loved working with carved and sandblasted wood. I also have worked in graphic arts. A few years ago, I came across a carving method that I felt could produce beautiful carved wood projects with a hand carved look, but also make them much more affordable. Michael Jr. and I started developing a technique for carved wood projects using a combination of of a small computer aided router (CNC) with a specially developed v-carve method; hand routing and carving; and individually sanding and staining. One of our first projects was to make some wooden Cross medallions to decorate the altar screen of our church. These were admired by all and were fun to make. So, we began to make some as gifts. The popularity of the gifts led to the establishment of Cross Woodcraft.
Our wood crafts are for decor. They can be mounted on the wall or placed on a display easel, or a display shelf or (of course) any way you would like to use them. They are all made of real wood. Most are made from one solid piece of wood. Some, however, are laminated planks. We use different types of wood for a variation of looks. We use mostly radiata pine because of the rich look and low cost. But we also use red cedar, Spanish cedar, oak, maple, cypress, Sapele mahogany and others. All work is done at our wood shop in Daytona Beach.
Much of our work follows a Celtic theme. Our ancestry is Scottish and Irish. I have always been fascinated by Celtic history and culture. We make Celtic symbols and knots as well as small signs with Gaelic words. We also have crafts that follow a Christian theme such as crosses or Christian symbols. We have some wood crafts that depict pets and animals. We will continue to add to the diversity of our listings. (Custom orders have become a big part of the work we do. We can personalize just about any of the carved wood projects. This is great for designing a special gift for weddings, anniversaries, graduations, birthdays and holidays.)
