Announcement   Curley Coffee fresh roasts coffee in the small mining town of Ajo, Arizona. Starting your day with a cup of Curley Coffee is a sip of support for women coffee growers around the world. These beans have both the story and the flavor that will embolden your life and theirs.

The Cafe Femenino Foundation is an independent nonprofit organization that funds community betterment grant requests proposed and managed by women in coffee producing regions around the world.

My morning coffee making process is ridiculously precise because I am addicted to ritual as well as caffeine. I start with a french press.

Heat filtered water to a boil. Warm up both the glass beaker and coffee cup with boiling water. Course grind 2 cups worth of coffee with a burr grinder. Pour out beaker water and add grounds. Pour in enough water to cover grounds and let 'bloom' for 30 seconds. Break top crust with a spoon and add hot water to fill. Let brew for 4 minutes and ....press. So worth the moment in a busy life.

Curley Coffee is a woman-owned business. "I had no idea that the process of roasting and celebrating fine coffee in my community could also connect me to women across the world who are also building the foundations of community.”

Don’t buy coffee from the grocery store. Curley Coffee is roasted just before shipping so you receive coffee at its optimum for flavor and benefit.

Develop a discerning ability to taste fresh roasted single origin coffees and appreciate their identity.

About

Finding my ground (coffee)

I arrived in this small town of Ajo, AZ, a bit lost, in transition, and to add to the sense of dislocation, no good coffee existed. It was kind of like arriving in one of those dry dusty western towns in the movies, except that I thirsted for a good cup of caffeine.

So, I began by selling a friend's fresh roasted coffee at our local 'Authentically Ajo" farmers market. The problem was that it wasn't 'Authentic' to Ajo.

Not willing to give up, I began to learn the trade with my Tucson friend. After hours of roasting along with a few good laughs and tears, spilling the beans in more ways than one, I caught the roasting fire. Curley Coffee was soon established on Ajo soil.

I roast in the commercial kitchen at the Curley School. Mr. Curley was chief engineer for the Copper Mine. He was also kind, generous and well loved by the Ajo community.

The Cafe Femenino Foundation is my primary source for beans. I have sampled many beans from many continents but Cafe Femenino certified beans have consistently arrived clean and fresh and are wonderful in taste and performance.

It makes sense because these women coffee growers are determined to build their lives. What I realized was that through the purchasing and roasting of a simple bean, I could, in turn, change a day in the life of a village family across the globe and change a day for someone in Ajo. ...All by serving a brilliant cup of coffee.

I believe I found my ground.
