I’m Emily, Chief Creative of Squiggle and Dot. As a lifelong creative and collector of art that inspires me, I found sometimes my perfectionism was the biggest barrier to creating. In came the monthly challenge idea: I would fill a sketchbook every month and give myself permission to experiment and fail. I adopted the mantra “Finished, not perfect” and set out to overcome this creative block armed with my newfound determination. I just needed the perfect sketchbook for my purposes. I experimented with paper, binding techniques, covers and corner punches for weeks.

The result? The wonderful sketchbooks you see in my shop. Unique, patterned and just the right size to fill in a month, I was inspired to create more than I had in weeks. Sometimes, all you need is the right tools to motivate you.

I decided to share these sketchbooks in my shop after friends and family wanted their very own notebooks and sketchbooks. These have inspired them to create, whether it’s writing, painting, hand lettering or just making squiggles and dots on the pages.

I hope to share my creative inspiration with everyone in my shop, because the world always needs more art.
