Customized design, made with a love for color, detail, and vintage style!
When planning my wedding in 2011, I not only had a ton of fun designing all the decor, but loved how "me" everything felt on the day of the event! There's such a lovely feeling when an event looks just how you'd hoped, and the style of all the little details feels downright cozy, because it suits you so well.
So, now I'm here to help add unique touches to your event! :) All of the designs in the shop are my own, and while I do keep an eye on trends, I always twist things a little to suit my style. I love old-fashioned elegant designs, the look of old paper, and playing with color.
I always send a proof first for you to double-check text accuracy, and can send you a print-ready final copy with whatever specifications you need. You then have the flexibility to print however many you need, whenever you need, wherever/however you'd like! (Many people print at home, but you can also use a local copy/print shop, many office supply chains, or print-on-demand websites - I keep the requirements for many of these places on-file to make your life easier. :)
I keep my design files setup in such a way that all kinds of changes can be made. Want the text navy blue instead of brown? Need an odd-sized R.S.V.P. design to fit the cards you bought? Have some extra information you want to send guests or post at your event? Let me know what you're looking for, we can work up a custom order for you!
I also try to be as prompt as I can for you - officially, 24-48 hours for a first proof after payment is received, but it's often under 24 hours. Message replies are generally within a few hours (rarely more than 12). I do have a toddler underfoot though, so don't panic if my replies slow down sometimes, I'll type when I can. ;)
My design background: I've been teaching myself Photoshop since high school, wound up with a college degree in Media Arts, then spent a few years working at a party goods/gift shop, where I spent a lot of time in the printshop. (There were a few months doing ad layout at a PennySaver newspaper, but that portion of my life is hazy due to all the migraines from car ads ha.)
I do all the things. :) Designs in the shop are my own, it's me you're chatting with for customer service, etc etc. In-progress on moving from Florida to North Carolina with my husband and our one-year old kiddo!
Please note that every monitor handles colors differently! While I do my very best to ensure the images I present portray item/design colors accurately, it's never going to be an exact science when you and I are looking at different screens.
Physical items (notecards) come from a non-smoker, cat-friendly home. (I do my best to keep the cat and toddler away from finished goodies, but, they're a bit nosy lol.) All printed items are carefully stored by me and sent to you in clear plastic sleeves. In most cases, they will ship to you in a rigid cardboard mailer.
Feel free to Etsy Convo me with any questions or requests! I love the challenge of customizing things, and it's a joy to be able to match a design to a person's request! See additional information on custom orders below.
Accepted payment methods
- Accepts Etsy gift cards
Payment must be made within 24 hours of placing your order, or it may be cancelled - though I'll contact you about any issues first.
PLEASE NOTE: If you're paying via PayPal, and the money is transferring from a linked blank account (and/or is an eCheck), it may take 3-5 days for the payment to process! (If the money is from a credit card or PayPal balance, this delay doesn't occur.) Your proofs may be watermarked until the payment has cleared.
North Carolina residents: Sales tax according to your local rate will be automatically applied to your order.
Due to the current Etsy setup, I may mark your order as having "shipped" when I've sent your first proof. You will not, however, be receiving anything in the mail - just image files via Etsy Convo/email. :)
::: PHYSICAL ITEMS (Notecards) :::
Shipping will be via USPS. By default, I ship First-Class (3-5 business days) to help keep your costs down, but if you need Priority or other rush options, just let me know! I should have your item packed up and in the mailbox within 24-48 hours, excluding Sundays and holidays - any custom orders, of course, will take extra time. I'll always give you a heads-up on any and all delays, should they occur.
I will always try to keep shipping costs as low as I can for you, so I'll combine shipping whenever I can, and refund you any time the estimate is way off. If you're purchasing items from both of my shops, make sure to point this out in the note to seller (in case I haven't had my coffee yet), and I'll pop things in the same package for you!
If your purchase is a custom design and I'm handling the printing for you, please remember that I'm at the printer's mercy as much as you are. Once I hand over the files to them, I can't do anything about how quickly they process or ship out your order!
I CANNOT take responsibility for any quirks in the mail system - once it's out of my hands, it's, well, out of my hands! I'm obsessive when it comes to packaging things carefully, but I have no control over what happens in either mail or weather systems, so if something is lost... you have my deepest sympathy, but I can't do anything more than you can.
::: INTERNATIONAL ORDERS :::
While I don't "officially" ship internationally - if you're in another country and would like notecards, please Convo me and I'll see what I can do for you! (I've shipped crochet items to Canada in the past - do be aware that international shipping is unfortunately much slower and much more expensive than domestic.)
International digital orders are, of course, no problem at all! :) My designs are currently all set to US paper standard sizes, but I should be able to convert to match your needs, just let me know what you'd like!
Refunds and Exchanges
I also can't be responsible for any fault in the printing process, as I provide only the digital file - you'll need to contact the company you had it printed with directly. (Though if it *does* turn out there was an issue with the file I provided you, please let me know and I'll do what I can to remedy it!)
: NOTECARDS : If you are totally unhappy with your purchase upon arrival, please convo me and let me know what I can do to resolve things! I will accept returns on ready-made items, but custom items will be determined on an individual basis. Returns will be refunded the purchase price (accounting for any discounts that may have been applied) and the original shipping cost, though return shipping must be covered by the customer. Refund will not be issued until the item has physically returned to me.
I cannot offer refunds for any fault in the mail system (damaged, late, or failed delivery).
Additional policies and FAQs
I ALWAYS send a proof first, so you're able to see if you like the way everything looks, and check for any spelling errors or typos. :) Proofs are generally sent within 24-48 hours of payment being received - please check the shop announcement box (on the main page at cyanandsepia.etsy.com) for any delay notices. (These times apply to items already listed in the shop, any new designwork beyond text changes may add an extra day or so - see Custom Orders section below.) Once you've given me approval on a proof, I'll email a final copy to you in whatever format works best for your printing plans!
I cannot do any customization work until payment has been received! (In some cases, I may be able to do things like send a test image to try on your printer and see if you want to proceed.)
Please remember that any delay in the customer's response doesn't count toward the designer's timeframe - if I give "three days" as my initial estimate for an order, and I don't hear a response on a proof after five days, those three days have NOT been used up - I can't continue work without information!
Proofs MAY be watermarked! Your final print-ready file will not be. Proofs may be at a lower image resolution than the final print version will be.
ADDITIONAL PROOFS WILL INCUR ADDITIONAL COST! While, obviously, typos are my fault, it takes time for me to do things like change your wording, and I'll also need to adjust spacing and color and probably other things for best results. Usually I'll offer to do a few rounds of changes or updates before charging extra. :)
Generally, I will handle orders through Etsy Convos, but if you'd like your proofing process to be done via email, I'm happy to do so!
::: ::: ::: CUSTOM ORDERS ::: ::: :::
Feel free to Convo me with any questions - just because I don't have any stickers listed, or anything with ladybugs, or your favorite shade of lime green, doesn't mean I can't do it! :) I can, in theory, design anything, and have experience working with every size design from business cards to giant banners!
1) Send me a message (via Etsy Convo, or email to cyanandsepia [!at] gmail.com ) with what you're looking for. Please let me know as many details as possible regarding item type, size, colors, images, style of font, how much wording, etc. (While I cannot copy another person's design, reference images are also helpful if you've found something similar to what you have in mind!)
2) Once I have a clear idea of what's needed, I'll set up a custom listing for you to purchase.
3) After payment is received, you should have your first proof within a few days!
New custom-designed orders do, by their nature, incur a delay due to production, and in some cases finding needed resources. I'll give you the best estimates that I can during our initial conversation, and keep you updated on timeframes. (See above for more info on the proofing process.) Most new custom invitations are finished up within a week's time.
Please let me know if there are any special design accommodations you need - certain filetypes, sizes, dpi requirements, cutlines, etc. Most of my designs are at an industry standard 300dpi resolution, but different printing companies may have specific requirements. I'm a bit limited in terms of vector design at the moment, but if needed, I can see what I can do.
::: ::: ::: COLORS ::: ::: :::
What I call fuchsia and what you call fuchsia may be very different! Please give a reference whenever possible:
- Color codes, such as the six-digit hex code (like #CC00F2) in a color-picker window, or a Pantone number.
- Color palette image, such as from Pinterest, designseeds, colourlovers, etc.
- Common reference color, like "Etsy-orange" or "David's Bridal's Plum"
- Photo showing your color, like your bridesmaids' dress or party favors
PLEASE REMEMBER: Every monitor shows color a little differently! While I'm very good at color matching, I can't promise that what my screens shows will be the same as yours - and printed items are always slightly different from the digital file. (95% of people won't notice that difference, but I do, so I'd just like to have the warning here!)
::: ::: ::: FONTS ::: ::: :::
Please keep in mind that I may or may not be able to accommodate specific font requests! While I'm fairly resourceful at finding fonts, I cannot use ones that I don't have the legal right to use. If it's LEGALLY available for free commercial usage, I'll be happy to add it to my collection. If I'm unable to use your exact request, I'll do the best I can to find a reasonable substitute.
I do have sample sheets of some of my available fonts - currently, I can send images with my script and handwriting style fonts on request.
::: ::: ::: PHOTOS ::: ::: :::
While I'm fairly experienced at adapting poor quality images when needed, the results are so much better when they're good to start with! I'll always do cropping, some minor color/level adjustment if needed, and am happy to slightly adjust the photo to fit into the style of the design (sepia tone, etc). That said, the better quality I'm given to start with, the better your final result will be! I know the technical details can get complicated, so if you have any questions about whether an image will work on not, just Convo or email me with it and I'll take a look! :)
• I CANNOT use images that have a photographer's watermark or copyright notice, without permission from the photographer. (Usually, this just takes a quick email or phone call, and they're usually happy to email me a release form!)
• Send THE ORIGINAL file whenever possible! This means the image straight off of your digital camera or cellphone (sometimes this will be a jpg, sometimes tiff, sometimes other things). Don't resize it, fix redeye, or make any other adjustments - I can handle those, and some software will drop the image quality when you make those adjustments.
• 200-300dpi is really bare minimum for photo printing, but if you have a giant-sized image that's only 72dpi, I can make it work.
• If you've scanned the image, please try to do so at the highest quality level you can (300-600dpi is preferred minimum), and have the photo and your scanner bed as free of dust and things as you can manage! Please be aware that your scanner may alter the colors in the photo, and that I won't know to fix this unless you specify. DO NOT make any further adjustments to the image once it's scanned in! Software will often prompt you to make changes, but try to find the original image the scanner created (often in the My Documents -> My Scans folder), and send me that one, no matter how big it looks or how weird the filename.
• Good-quality images can only be blown up three or four times their original size before things start looking bad. This includes cropping! If someone's face is only half-an-inch high in your photo, and your invitation has a spot for a three-inch photo, it's probably not going to work.
::: ::: ::: OTHER IMAGES ::: ::: :::
I WILL NOT reproduce images that I do not have the rights for. This includes cartoon characters (I am *so* not up for a lawsuit from Disney), photographer's proofs, anything with a watermark on it, and anything that I can tell you just did a google search for and stole the first result. (I can google-search too, and so can the copyright holder!) If you have any questions on this issue, please ask me about what I can and can't do. While I can't use a picture of Mickey Mouse, I most certainly can do a design in the same color palette, and make it match the rest of your party goods! I can't use Tinkerbell, but there are some absolutely adorable fairy images in the public domain that I'd love to use!
::: ::: ::: LEGAL-ESE ::: ::: :::
I retain the rights to any and all design. While you're obviously welcome to use your personalized image to your heart's content, you are NOT entitled to, for example, re-use the border and fill in different information for someone else's party. Personal use of my designs are always fine, but commercial usage MUST be discussed with me prior to completion of your order. I may also decide to offer any custom design in my shop, identical (with personal information removed, of course!) or similar to what I've worked up for your order. I know how important it is to have unique items for your event though, so I'll try not to post a version of it for sale to others until after your event has passed! ;)
Like any designer, I use a mixture of original content and publicly-available design resources. (Like, that cute little birdy? I drew. But the pattern he's been filled in with was created by someone else, though I changed the color and texture. I used someone's tutorial somewhere to teach me how to draw that dotted line around his speech bubble.)
I do THE BEST I can to ensure that all design resources (font, brushes, textures, etc) I make use of are legal for commercial usage. If you are someone who has created one of these awesome resources, and I shouldn't be using it, please let me know! I've done as much research as I can, but I've found some websites misrepresent resources as being free for use, when the original creator may have said otherwise - and some of my files are old enough that the website of origin is no longer in existence.
I've put links to some of my most frequently used design resources in the shop's profile. :)
