About

Historic photo processes re-imagined in three-dimensions

I started this shop as a new platform to showcase my ever increasing body of cyanotype sculptures. I knew that Etsy's focus on the hand-made meshes perfectly with my work processes and I am very happy to be part of this community of makers.

As for my work, it exists somewhere in the intersection of two totally different eras: the first is the mid-late 19th century when the cyanotype process was invented and the second is our present deluge of digital images. I am inspired by the potent energy of each of these moments to create three-dimensional photographic sculptures of animals and plants. Each piece is covered in a skin of fabric sun-prints that and hand sewn around the paper forms. I use high-powered magnets to allow forms to pass through glass vessels in unexpected and magical ways.

I hope that my work brings a whimsy and playfulness into people's homes, but I also want to showcase the amazing powers of the historic photographic process I use. Cyanotype is not only a beautiful medium, it is a timeless one. By using it and teaching others to use it at well, I am a small part of the renaissance of these tactile photographs.
