Who thought ties could be so chill?! We absolutely love this super relaxed photo of author Jimmy Tomczak for his book tour. Got sleep? Tangled waves of Beta, Alpha, Theta, and Delta electrical-impulses gradually change frequency up the length of the tie.
Did you know that we hand-mix over 100 printing ink colors? That's especially useful for our wedding packages for matching neckties, where you can order up any color combo under the sun, and at 10%-30% off, depending on quantity!
Brit and Ari were an absolute joy to work with! We made custom neckties and pocket squares for their exquisite Beverly Hills wedding. From their vibrant orange bouquets to the orange paper cranes that soared high above the reception, they got it perfect!

About

The Cyberoptix® TieLab was started in 2005 after noticing a void in creative yet sophisticated neckwear.

Our ties are as unique as you are.

You don't need another boring tie. You do need a necktie that reflects your personality. That's why we're here. Whether you love ties or love to hate ties, you've arrived at a place where you can choose from thousands of design and color combinations. The shopping cart displays tried-and-true options we've already picked out for you -- or, you can create your very own!

Customization is usually a long, difficult process. We're here to change that.

We've selected tons design and color combinations that we know look great on everyone. However, as tie makers we know all the fun is really in the design process. You're invited to join in that process!

The Cyberoptix TieLab was started in 2005 after noticing a void in creative, yet sophisticated neckwear. We specialize in making men and women of all ages undeniably presentable. We dutifully outfit gangs of groomsmen, bridesmaid and ring-bearers with our very customizable color schemes.

"Made to order" doesn't mean made to wait around! We understand that often the last minute is the best minute -- birthdays, anniversaries and even weddings can sneak up on you! We print to order and ship Monday-Friday. This is how we are able to offer literally thousands of color, print, and size options for you -- yet still keep our prices very affordable.

Our bespoke printing service: For only $5 more, you can build a necktie, bow tie, pocket square or scarf in the perfect color and design combination that is unique to your style, the event you're planning, or organization you belong to. You can choose from over 100 fabric colors, over 100 printing ink colors, six tie sizes, countless fabric choices, and over 350 graphics. The really crazy part? We'll have it out the door to you in just a couple of days. No waiting. Your time is worth more than that.

We only use materials and supplies that are best for you. We exclusively print with environmentally responsible, water-based inks. They're better for the health of our planet, the people who make your ties in our workshop, and they perform much better on fine fabrics like silk. You know that thick, cracked graphic on your t-shirt? You sure don't want that on your tie -- that's solvent-based printing ink. Yuck!

In order to provide you with the most unique ties in the whole world, our necktie and scarf fabric is handmade by our trusted, vetted and inspected partners. They are super awesome weaving specialists who make the actual fabric we screen print on. Each and every tie is hand sewn. We pick threads, agonize over weave textures and measurements, resulting in beautiful bespoke ties for our printing hands. We've designed a color range for you that no one else has, in a quality that you can be confident in.

We're here to help out! What some folks have said about their order experience:

"You guys are awesome. I hope you storm the world with your ties and your excellent humor--not to mention your superior customer service. I haven't seen service like this since the days when you drove up to a gas station and 8 gorgeous men ran out and serviced your car while they pumped your gas.. for 45 cents a gallon! Twelve thumbs up for you." - Gloria, IL

And what the print papers, internets and teevee have said:

"Bethany Shorb is breathing some long overdue freshness into neckties with her CYBEROPTIX TIE LAB. ...At around $40, these handmade beauties blow department store ties out of the water." -JoshSpear

"These ties are the perfect way to say, "I'm hip, AND I have I job." -BEN POPKEN , Consumerist

The TieLab has been featured on the Martha Stewart Show, HGTV; various design blogs such as io9, notcot, thrillist, indiefixx, indieobsession, Fabulist, The Consumerist, Uncrate and print publications such as The New York Times, The New York Times Style Magazine, Grazia France, Time Out New York, Time Out Chicago, Make Magazine, Details, Fiberarts, Bust, Adorn, URB, BPM, and Industrial Nation.

We hope to feature some fine neckwear - on you!

Welcome to the TieLab! We've transformed the most maligned accessory into a highly coveted, luxurious object. Each elegantly subversive tie and scarf is handmade of the finest and some of the most unusual materials - all in our studio in downtown Detroit. Don't be afraid to tie one on.

Each tie is individually hand screenprinted. Placements may vary slightly from piece to piece. Each is unique and may have its own variation in print density and texture, with indications and remnants of the printing process on the reverse, further adding to its individual character. Our work is proudly made by skilled hands, not robots!

Payment
For online payment, we currently accept both PayPal and credit cards through Etsy's processor. We also accept Bitcoin, just convo for details.

PLEASE make sure your address in Etsy/PayPal is up to date! We have had a few misdirected orders lately due to customers having very old addresses on file and no alternate address submitted. Homeless ties and scarves are very, very sad!

If payment is not received and we are not contacted within 7 days, we regrettably will have to cancel your order and leave negative feedback. Please, please keep in contact with us so that we don’t have to be meanies!

Customers residing in the state of Michigan (MI) will have sales tax in the amount of 6% added to their order.

For our international customers, please keep in mind that any tariffs, taxes, or customs fees will be the responsibility of the buyer. The amount (if any) due is at the sole discretion of the customs agent that periodically inspects inbound parcels, we can not provide estimates.
Shipping
Each tie and scarf order is packaged in unbleached kraft tissue ready for gift-giving! We never include the invoice in the package due to having such a high volume of gift orders.

If you need a paper copy of the invoice, let us know!

All US orders (except swatches) are shipped via USPS Priority Mail and all orders are shipped with delivery confirmation numbers (except swatches). Expedited shipping is available for rush orders, please contact us for details on timing.

Outside the US, we use First Class International and it can take 21+ business days to arrive. This estimate does not take into account time needed for customs clearance or extra transit day(s) for delivery outside major cities. We can upgrade to Priority International or even Express International if you need it quicker - please just ask!

Items ship within five business days upon receiving payment, but most orders go out the very next day! For larger orders, please allow a bit more time - every tie is still designed by Bethany, just like they were from day one.

We cannot accept visitors to our studio except during open houses (such as Eastern Market After Dark) - it's just too chaotic and unsafe. However we have partnered with The Peacock Room in downtown Detroit for local pickups! We don't staff the shop but they're kind enough to let our customers stop by to get their orders. Just let us know when you order that you'd like to pick it up there and we'll refund your shipping.

The Tie Lab is not responsible for lost, delayed, or damaged items after they are shipped, though we provide tracking info and we will make every effort to try and resolve the situation. It is important that we have happy customers!

Please direct any shipping questions to orders [!at] cyberoptix.com.
Refunds and Exchanges
Since each is made to order, we politely ask that you are sure of the color and design you really want before purchasing, please feel free to ask any questions regarding length, width and color before ordering to minimize exchanges.

We will gladly exchange or refund a non-custom item within two weeks of purchase (28 days for winter holiday orders), less shipping charges, subject to a restocking fee of 15%. To return an item, please email us for a return address and a RMA number. Returns sent without contacting us first will not be accepted without an RMA and will be shipped back to you. All items must be unworn and in new condition. Replacement items will be sent when we receive the item to be returned. Defective ties are of course replaced for a flat exchange with no restocking fee.

We regret that we absolutely can not take any returns on custom/one-of-a-kind, wedding or special orders. Three or more of the same design/ink will be considered a wedding/event order even if it is a stock/non-custom colorway. We strive to work with you BEFORE the tie is created so that you get exactly what you want!

To help with color selection and confirmation, we offer a swatching service for a nominal fee. For large/ custom orders, we strongly suggest ordering a physical swatch first as colors can display differently from monitor to monitor vs. real life, and color undertones can be difficult to capture photographically.

You are welcome to order a swatch of fabric or fabric and ink right here:

Additional policies and FAQs
Every tie and scarf is made to order, this way we are able to keep our designs fresh, your ties unique, and prices very reasonable. Occasionally, we do make small batches of some of our most popular styles to have for backstock so we don't go crazy!

CUSTOM WORK

We can make up ties in colorways not usually featured on the site. If you need a custom color ink mixed, just ask – it is generally no problem and will just tack on a few more days to complete. Custom-color printing ink mixes are $10 per order (not per tie!). Custom orders may take up to 8 business days to ship upon receiving payment, but usually faster. Please let us know if you need something rushed and we will make every effort to accommodate.

ORDER CONFIRMATION

We always confirm each order via email, from a real person, not a lazy email robot. We then send a confirmation number after it's been shipped so you can track it all the way home.

WHOLESALE/CONSIGNMENT

We frequently fill wholesale orders and are represented around the US, Canada, Europe, and more (currently about 100 shops) – just ask for details! We also offer a 10-30% discount for large orders of the same design for wedding parties, offices, etc. We only accept a few requests for consignment in markets where we are not currently well-represented.
