The style of this hat is lovely - really cosy and well-fitting - and I love the colour combination. Kirsty sent it off promptly at my request and it arrived the next day.
And so the "hooking" began...(cause I use a hook to crochet...get it?)
Scruffy Ducks was born of a couple of things.
-my love of crochet
-my love of DnD (ScruffyDucks started life as D20Dicebags)
-my need to try new yarns and patterns
-running out of space to store everything I make
I love yarn, I love the way it feels and combines. I love all the different colours and textures. I love playing with it and making cute and lovely items.
As a child my mother and paternal grandmother tried desperately to teach me to knit. I never got the hang of it, but I did love the wool. After some encouragement, and at the tender age of 20, I started teaching myself to crochet.
Slowly at first, and mostly from youtube tutorials , I picked it up. I remember my first chain, my first granny square and my first phone case (still in good use might I add). Soon I was getting requests, the other half wanted a case for his galaxy, two of my friends wanted dice bags, my mother hinted heavily about a blanket for so long, I gave up and made her one for Christmas.
And then I had to keep going, my fingers were moving faster than the requests, so I started D20Dicebags. When the phone case's started outselling dice bags, I thought about changing the name, then when I wanted to list bows I started looking for alternatives. It finally got changed when I started making flowers. Scruffy Ducks Crochet. A reflection on my love of crochet, one of the best animals out there, and from a time when I got referred to as 'Pickle Monster, Mucky Scruff' (I think its from a kids book, the husband to be has started calling me Pickle now too).
The ScruffyDucks way is basically, Kirst buys yarn (and gets told off by other half for it) and then Kirst makes it into something she feels it was almost meant to be. Kirst lists and waits...
More recently, I picked up the needles again and have started re-teaching myself to knit. Expect some knitted items soon.
Almost everything in my shop is ready to go, there are no more than 3 or 4 made to order items at a time (as unfortunately Etsy isn't my full time job right now).
