At Distressed but not Forsaken, we believe that different is good. Different is interesting. Different is unique. We like the fact that no two pieces of furniture we enhance are the same, and that when you buy from us you are truly getting something you can call your own.

In many cases the furniture we choose to upcycle has, over time, developed the inevitable battle scars of age. Be it a chip here or a bump there, these little idiosyncrasies are what we believe give each piece its individuality and provides a story to tell.

We look to embrace these markers of history, whilst at the same time bestowing a little love and attention of our own in order to breathe new life into these often unappreciated treasures.

Through this process we aim to provide furniture that is not only environmentally sustainable but also gives an added sense of style, character and history to any home it may grace. We hope you agree.

Buying distressed furniture

By definition, the furniture we sell has endured the effects of time. This general wear and tear is what we believe gives the furniture its character and we make no attempt to cover it up. Indeed, in certain circumstances, this “distressed” look is highlighted in the methods we use to paint and style some of our pieces. To this end, whilst we endeavour to give an honest and reliable description of the furniture’s condition, if there is a lump here or a bump there that does not greatly affect its appearance or functionality it may not be specifically noted.

If you have any particular questions or queries about a specific piece of furniture on the website, please feel free to contact us and we will be happy to try and answer them.

Caring for your Furniture

In order to keep your furniture looking at its best, we recommend giving it a coat of Annie Sloan’s clear furniture wax approximately every 12 months. Simply apply the wax with a dry cotton cloth or paintbrush, leave to absorb for several hours then polish/buff with a separate clean cloth.

This will help to maintain the durability of both the finish and look of the piece, enabling you to enjoy it at its best for years to come.
