Frequently asked questions

Do you ship outside the US?

I am willing to ship outside the US but only after carefully checking shipping service rates to your home country. You assume all risks if your country has a shady postal system.

Please send me a PM if you intend to have a project shipped outside the United States.

How much processing time should I give you for gifts during holiday seasons?

In order to fulfill holiday & birthday gift orders for single pieces, the order should be in at least one month in advance to ensure you receive it by the holiday. With less than one month's lead time, I cannot guarantee delivery in time for the holiday.

My standard S&H automatically allots sufficient time to complete the project for normal purchases or birthdays.

I have an idea for a pattern you're not actively selling.

Let me know! I'll be glad to at least make an attempt, and I will let you know up front if it's beyond my capability to avoid wasting time and resources. Maybe a similar alternate pattern exists that will bring your idea to life. You can PM me through Etsy, or through my Facebook page at www.facebook.com/dhstringtheory.

Do you require a deposit for commissioned pieces?

Yes. Once the design is drawn and approved by you, the buyer, a special listing is created for payment and the link sent to your PM. Payment must be received in full prior to shipping.

Why doesn't my wood grain look as good as the listing photo?

I don't buy wood from hardware stores. Most of my wood comes from two sources: demolished 18th/19th century homes & barns, or salvaged from trash collection. Therefore, I cannot guarantee any wood type or grain used in your art or furniture.

However, if there is a type or grain you'd like to receive, contact me in advance of your purchase to ensure I have something in stock or can get it readily. If I have to buy it, there will not be a markup - what I pay will be the difference in price you will pay.

Please don't leave low or bad feedback because "the grain [you] received wasn't what [you] expected" if you didn't ask.

Wholesale availability

I'm very interested in interacting with any local craft shop or art gallery that wants to consign my work. Please message me through my Facebook page at: www.facebook.com/dhstringtheory

Custom and personalized orders

I am willing to attempt anything you want. If you see something someone else did or is selling, I will do my best to replicate it (but I will be pricing it according to my own system). Find your desired images on Etsy, Pinterest, Google, etc.

However, I have made it a personal policy to not offer pieces in my shop that were created and sold by other Etsy sellers. I'll copy anything for you but you'll never see it listed in my shop. It's not fair to them to see their own work copied (crudely, in some cases) and sold (probably) cheaper than their own.

PERSONALIZATION: I'm not great at painting or woodburning letters & words. I'll make the attempt if you really want it, and if it's something simple, I won't even charge you for it.

Did you recently raise your prices?

Yes and no.

At the recommendation of a few fellow crafters, I incorporated the shipping costs into the listing costs and gave every listing free shipping. You're paying roughly the same amount (although in some cases it might be less if I knew a lower shipping cost was applicable) but FREE SHIPPING listings get more attention on/by Etsy.
