I have just unwrapped your exquisite watercolor,"Knitting Rock". I have been coveting it for some time and am delighted to have it displayed where I can enjoy it every day. The transaction, from start to finish, exceeded my expectations.

DL Rigter Artist and Maker

I'm an artist currently working in watercolor, mixed media/fiber, tapestry, surface design, painting, and more. It's a very experimental time.

What inspires me:
I'm inspired by many things one of which is nature of course and how we fit into and interact with our surroundings, home and environment. Not only am I interested in our natural world but our man-made world as well. Windows, doors, tunnels, stairways and pathways seem to creep into my drawings. In the last couple of years the figure has become ever present in my work. I take long walks taking photographs of everything I'm drawn to: doors, walls, people, trees, and sidewalks with wonderful textures beaten into them from rain, elements and time. I see beauty in something that others may see as just old. My earlier works were quilts that I created using my own fabrics with discharge, screenprinting, dyeing, shibori, and other surface design techniques. I still use some of these techniques but I've also gone back to my loom. Weaving tapestry and fabrics that I dye and stitch. After pursuing my graduate degree in textiles and fine art I went to work in the textile industry as a Jacquard textile designer. All of those years with a Wacom pen in hand have made it easy for me to switch gears and now use that digital pen to create digital imagery that I print on fabric and stitch. Other sources of inspiration come from my personal experiences, memories, photographs, drawings, daydreaming, and readings. One of my favorite books is The Poetics of Space by Gaston Bachelard. According to Bachelard, it isn't the historical accuracy that is significant but the act of daydreaming which allows us to relive and recreate our memories so that these dwelling places of the past remain with us for all time. As an artist, it is not only the act of daydreaming but also the process of making that solidifies my thoughts, dreams, and memories. I transcend one place to another thru making.

"We comfort ourselves by reliving memories of protection. Memories of the outside world will never have the same tonality as those of home. By recalling these memories, we add to our store of dreams; we are never real historians, but always near poets, and our emotion is perhaps nothing but an expression of a poetry that was lost." -Gaston Bachelard, The Poetics of Space
