Dance the Moon - Freedom and Joy through Inspiration
Greetings from the high desert of northwestern New Mexico!
On the business side, I've been in retail most of my life (a long time!), and ecommerce since 2003. In 2012 I became involved in local markets, a good thing since my computer and printers decided that was the year to have everything go wrong that is earthly possible. It was also good because it forced me to leave my hermitage and get back into this weird and wonderful rural community. Want to boost your creative flow? Hang out with creative people.
And here it is, 2014... wow! I'm delighted to be back!
Now, kick off your shoes and step into this Land of Enchantment. Come dance with me among the shadowy cedars under a gentle moon, while I share a bit about DancingSpirit and DanceTheMoon.
Day People relish the Sun, Night People belong to the Moon. The Moon is ever-changing, minute by minute, steadily moving from one phase to the next.
That's me :-) That's how my creativity flows. Dance the Moon is about being an artist, artisan, crafter... and dreamer.
My artsy-craftsy nature came to surface when I was just a wee brat, and has grown with me through the many (many many many) years. It has carried me over the rough spots and helped me celebrate the glowing times.
Often the advice to those who sell on Etsy is to concentrate on one medium or inspiration. Well, sorry, that’s just not me. I love doing all kinds of things, and learned long ago not to restrict myself to one thin line of creation. I had an art teacher who forced us to leave our comfort zone and explore different media and subject matter. At first I thought I was doomed but, once I ventured beyond portraiture and surrealism in ink and pens, pencil, and paper, it was absolutely freeing! I love that man for encouraging me to bow to the muse and relish whatever medium or inspiration she throws at me. She leads, I follow...
I call it "Dancing the Moon".
Raised in Iowa, I still love country and rustic stuff. Then after many years in the Southwest, the cowboy and Native American influence also found its way into my work. Top it all off with a Celtic heritage and a love of the spiritual and metaphysical...
Well, that explains the ever-changing mix, which ranges from moody to whimsical, serene to irreverent, urban to rural, you'll find in my shop: Photography, Digital Art, Mixed Media, Collage, Wall Quilts and various Home Decor Objects, Bags of all sorts, Jewelry, and... who knows what!
I work with all sorts of materials (love them all!): fabric, yarns, threads, beads, wire, chain, papier mache and clay, found items, wood and stuff of nature (leather and feathers and bones – oh my!). Living in a rural, semi-wild area, I often find interesting natural things to work with - sun-bleached bones left behind by coyotes, odd pieces of wood, stones of a curious nature... You never know what's beyond that next tree.
Of course, I still love ink and pens, pencil, and paper ;-)
Though I often use new materials, there's also often a bit of upcycled/reused/reclaimed/repurposed/whatever or found something-or-other in them. I take great delight in turning something old into new, something ordinary into unique. Yeah!
Thanks for stopping by to "Dance the Moon" with me ♥
