Inlaid Stone and Silver Jewelry: A Journey of Natural Stones.

Gemstones have been forming deep under the surface of the Earth for millions of years. Geological and chemical processes are constantly at work to create and display a natural art possessing an array of brilliant colors and architectural varieties. Gemstones have the unique ability to remind us of our primal self; ultimately we are all made of minerals and star dust. Thus, our mission is to link the natural past with our current modern age since we as humans find added meaning through our individual connection with each unique gemstone. Mother earth is our greatest employee – she has provided the natural processes that work to create each unique stone. Now we have taken on the task to turn each natural resource into a unique personal token to be carried with us everywhere. As we construct each individual pendant, we are constantly reminded of the splendor of the natural world. We would like to share this magnificence with you!

The journey began with a class assignment. My jewelry teacher challenged each student to create a nontraditional way of making jewelry either through material use or process. I chose the process route. My idea was to turn the traditional method of setting stone onto a piece of silver jewelry into a uniquely opposite process by inlaying silver into a piece of stone. As I started to carve the first few pieces of stone, I stumbled upon something great. I realized I could employ an identical process to each stone that would result in a unique different product each time. The stone always changes. The colors and the texture always change. The shape and size always change. But the process stays the same! Much like the natural processes of the Earth. Although these processes that produce gemstones are relatively constant, no two gemstones are exactly alike. Our aim is to emulate this idea with our jewelry making!

Much care and time is put into the creation of each pendant. The process requires patience and a steady hand. Stones are selected and cut to form various shapes. Areas such as circles or hearts are carved out of the stone in which to inlay the silver and gemstones. The shape is outlined with a piece of silver and then filled with selected gemstones, all natural in color. Upon completion of the inlay, a belt sander is used to shape and polish the stone. It is important to us that the pieces are all hand-sanded to polish with NO wax used as an alternative finish. Finally, a silver bail is inserted into the stone pendant to complete the process. We are committed to a completely hand-made process!

We add new pieces weekly so be sure to check our listings for updates!
