Welcome to DarlingArts Studio! My name is Kimberly Darling and I am a fiber artist. I dye, card, spin, sew, knit, crochet, recycle, up-cycle, embellish and manipulate fiber in all sorts of ways. Here in the shop you will find dyed locks and fiber, hand-spun yarn, carded batts, and some hand-crafted tools. Occasionally, my unique artworks are featured.

I have been working with fabric, yarn, and fibers for most of my life. Learned to sew at the age of 12, and was knitting and crocheting in my teens. Started carding and spinning fiber after an astounding epiphany! It dawned on me that I didn't need to buy every single skein of fabulous art yarn encountered, I could make them! That led to my studio dedicated to fiber arts, and I couldn't be happier.

Nearly all of the fiber or yarn offered at DarlingArts is dyed by me. After teaching a Color Theory class for over 20 years, the colors offered here tend to be bright, high contrast schemes, but you may find a few ombres, and rich neutrals in the mix.

DarlingArts Studio is able to do custom dyed fibers or yarn, the only requirement is a swatch of fabric, wall-covering, paint chip, or photograph. Click on Custom Color link for further information. Please convo me with requests or questions.

Most skeins can be wound into a center-pull ball if you would like. Just add a note at checkout. If the skein is too large, and won’t fit on my ball winder, I will let you know.

DarlingArts Studio works very hard to accurately photograph products, however color variations may occur due to differences in computer monitors. I try to be as specific as possible, regarding hue, value, and intensity of product colors in my descriptions. If you have any concerns, please feel free to contact me, I will do my best to answer all of your questions.

If you are dissatisfied with your transaction for any reason, please contact me to resolve the issue BEFORE leaving feedback. I want to be a 5 star seller, and I want you to be happy with your product and return to DarlingArts Studio for more.

Thank you, Kimberly.

Additional policies and FAQs
I do bulk order discounts. If ordering 6 or more braids or yarns, contact me for a discount coupon code.
If ordering 2 pounds or more of dyed locks or fleece, contact me for a discount coupon code.

All fleece is purchased from shepherds who love what they do and provide exceptional husbandry for all of their animals. DarlingArts tries to purchase from local, especially Midwest growers, but also purchases from well known fiber producers throughout the US.

DarlingArts Studio purchases superwash roving and yarns to be hand-dyed and offered for sale. Small bits of superwash are sometimes thrown into the carding bag and mixed with all other remnant scraps of fiber. Just know that the majority of fiber in any batt is regular wool, it should felt perfectly fine.

I buy my silk and plant fibers from other artists, supporting those willing to deal with purchasing in bulk from other countries. Unfortunately, the USA is not a huge producer of silk and bamboo fibers.

DarlingArts fiber is dyed using professional permanent dyes, usually in a one of a kind (OOAK) color scheme. If there is something that you see that you would like in a larger quantity, please contact me. I am willing to dye a larger amount in a specific color scheme.

Thanks for shopping and supporting fiber artists. Handspun yarn is a luxury item, and much time and effort, and loving care goes into everything that is made for the shop. Although I find incredible joy in everything related to preparing and spinning fiber, this is not a hobby, but a business. The truth of business is that you must make a profit, and I need to get paid for the joyful parts as well as the not so fun parts. I love skirting and cleaning a dirty fleece, (some folks don’t,) dyeing and carding, and spinning is zen-like, but I’m not so crazy about the book-keeping, (taxes and utilities-ugh,) the web page maintenance, or cleaning the studio (I make a lousy housekeeper.) Everything is added into the cost of doing business, and I do need to make a living on what I do. That is why the prices here are going to be higher than commercially prepped yarns and higher than many hobby spinners, who are selling their yarn to recoup some of their fiber costs.

The products offered here at DarlingArts are very labor-intensive. I use exceptional fiber from shepherds throughout the US, then clean, wash, dye, pick, card, comb, spin, and/or finish it in my studio. It takes hours of work to provide the high quality products DarlingArts offers. In purchasing from me, you are supporting an artist, and are gaining a piece of fiber art. I very much appreciate your support. Thank you.
