About

Handmade With Love

It's not simply about sewing. It's what I love to do. It is chasing down that dream until I catch up to it. It's spending time with my children and grandchildren and living my life in such a way that I feel fulfilled by what I'm doing.

My passion for sewing really caught fire when I made my first YouTube tutorial in 2009. After that first video, I wanted to challenge myself to try something new (sewing) and each project became the jumping off point for the next. I got rid of the majority of my store bought sewing patterns years ago and began creating my own. I just find it easier to work with an idea if I start completely from scratch. If you would like to see more of my work and my process, go to YouTube and search AFateSoTwisted.

I once heard someone berate others for using the phrase "handmade with love", but I say it takes a whole lot of love and devotion to let your creativity shine. At a 9-5 job you do what your boss tells you and at the end of the day, you go home and relax until it's time to punch in again. People think if someone has their own business they make their own hours. If you want your handmade business to grow, you work at it constantly - there is no punching the time card at the end of the day. You are always working to make it better. You are always making positive changes and perfecting your craft. You become the toughest boss you've ever had.

I worked as a CNA in the past and it was hard work, but I have never worked as hard as I have in the past few years. I want a business that people love. I want to create things that catch the eye; things people truly want to wear and show off to their friends. For me, this is real. I am not passing the time or just trying to make a few bucks here and there. I want something I can be proud of. I want my children to tell their children that I worked hard for what I have and I want them to know it's worth it to take risks and to believe in yourself. That's one of the most valuble lessons I learned from my husband, Julian.

Julian left us way too early in an automobile accident in December 2011, but his love, diligent work ethic and passion for life left me with a strong desire to pursue my dreams. I envision myself writing letters to Julian, telling him about all the things happening in our lives - including what new projects I'm working on at the moment. Dear Julian seems a fitting tribute to him.

Sincerely
Stephanie

Additional policies and FAQs
I am happy to do custom orders.

Custom Orders require 100% of payment before your order creation can begin. Turn around time depends on the how many orders I have ahead of your order (I do get quite a few local orders), but I work diligently to complete all orders within a reasonable time frame. Requesting a custom order is not the same as paying for a custom order. Paid orders begin and are completed in the order in which they were received.

Each item is handmade by me, Stephanie Gomez and slight variations are expected.
