More about me? - I am a fibre artist living on one of the northern Gulf Islands of British Columbia, Canada, a little remote, a little isolated, but affording me a chance to work in a beautiful space overlooking the waters of the Salish Sea and the Beaufort Range of the mountains of Vancouver Island. My passion for colour is fed daily through my closeness to the landscape of ocean, shoreline, forest and mountain vistas.

Why felt? - Who doesn't love sheep! Wool is a most versatile and amazing fibre, harvested annually from a living animal, truly a sustainable resource. To create the boiled wool felt of my handbag line I use wool yarns, sourced from Canadian suppliers, which I dye, then knit, then transform with hot water, soap and the tumbling action of my front loading washing machine into that dense, durable and practical fabric ~ felt! Felt is also an extremely comfortable material, soft against your skin and that of little ones in your life. A truly unobtrusive material, there are no metal buckles to scratch and jewellery made of felt is noiseless against keyboards and each other - bangles that will not bang!

Why my functional felt products? - Purchasing one of my products is an investment in a piece of functional artwork that will be used on a daily basis and which will last for years. The products are built to last, felted into a thick and durable material which can withstand daily wear and tear and which hold their form over time. It's easy to keep these felt products clean and maintain their colours as they are handwashable in soap and warm water. Colour is my passion and one which I hope to share with you through my work. Colour deeply impacts our mood and has the ability to liven up our day and make us smile, something I feel we should strive for as much as possible!

Boiled wool felt handbags and bangles, necklaces and bracelets from wool fibre, these felt accessories make great gifts for friends and loved ones - a source of warmth and colour all year round.

Oh but this is gorgeous - I am thin wristed - and these little bracelets stay on - they are so light that you don't feel like you're wearing anything. In the winter, they look like a funky cuff continuation on my sweater. In the summer, they will look unique & interesting. The colors are those of Atlantic ocean stone, of river bed - the "beaded" bracelet is phenomenal....I am passionate about hiking & nature - and this looks like something that came from something I found that someone made. Thank you.

About

Studio by the Sea

From my studio on the third floor of my coastal home, I hand-dye yarns, create designs for fashion accessories, machine knit the pieces and felt everything in an industrial washing machine. Though I have developed patterns to go on, each piece is one-of-a-kind due to the characteristics of the dyes, yarns and felting process itself. I do a lot of experimenting refining my lines of functional felt accessories, as well as creating large-scale pieces for exhibits across the globe.

Most recently I have been getting back to my roots, combining electronics and felt to evoke various sensory experiences inspired by my coastal home for an upcoming feature exhibit.
