About

Deborah Hartl Designs

Hello and welcome!

My name is Deborah. I am an Australian Designer & manufacturer of couture bridal & formal headwear. All of my items I exclusively design and make by hand in my studio which is located on the South Coast of NSW, Australia.

The work I produce is an artisan handcraft concentrating on the designing and creating of specialty hair pieces and accessories for any & all occasions. Using the highest quality components that I can source, many from around the world, my items can be more likened to jewellery pieces containing semi precious elements like genuine pearls, Swarovski crystals, pure silk etc.

Custom orders are welcome.

My mission is to create a wearable piece of art that makes you unforgettable!

********* SPECIAL REQUEST ************
I would like to request please, to all fellow designers and customers, to be respectful and do not copy these original designs created by Deborah Hartl Designs. My designs have been refined and perfected through my dedication and extremely long hours of hard work with monetary investments of materials and time. Deborah Hartl Designs is the result of honest hard work. Thank you very much for your understanding.

.................The long story behind Deborah Hartl Designs..................

Having grown up in a rural area on an operating farm, working with our hands was just a part of daily life. How useful that experience has proven to be. Only now do I appreciate certain skills and lessons that we unknowingly learnt as children, and marvel at how they have shaped my life.

One of these skills I treasure is that of improvising. My parents who both came from families who lived very modestly both learnt to improvise exceptionally well and thus taught us to do the same. To be able to think 'outside the square', to utilise what materials were at hand, or to make, modify and adjust to meet the demands of a task. This is a skill in which a price cannot be put.

While growing up my family also lived modestly, but looking back we were rich in so many other ways - planting and cultivating much of our own food, picking wild blackberries during summer months, foraging for wild field mushrooms after autumn rains. And with regular explorations of the national park that bordered our farm which abounded with all sorts of native flora and fauna, we kids naturally developed a deep rooted connection with our environment. Experiencing these things first hand set the stage for a genuine interest in nature which in turn has developed into a deep respect for the earth and its designer.

As time went on, I found that I had a desire for designing - no, rather, I had a passion for it! Putting my mind to learning Interior Design and after three years of training I received a Diploma with distinction from the UK University Rhodec International. This added to my knowledge and understanding of the structural arrangement involved throughout any design process, no matter how big or small, to accomplish proper balance and proportion in order to produce finished products that are pleasing to the eye.

Now that I am older, seen new places, experienced new things, my love for the outdoors and nature has not wavered, in fact it has actually grown more than ever. I see natures designs from such a different perspective now and I am intrigued how humans including myself, continue to strive and always will, to replicate these designs purely because of the fact, that the designs of nature are genuine masterpieces, that they are perfect in every which way and truly unsurpassable. It is for this reason, as a designer and creator of an artisan handcraft, when I look at nature for inspiration, I am incredibly humbled.
