Sorry but the clock was broke off, no battery as stated, and the clock itself is very loose and cheap. It's been 7:05 for a week now. 4 thumbs down. JL

About

Idea to Reality

Regardless of the process and material, the end result of my work is a unique object that appeals to the eye, invites the hand and hopefully, makes you smile. The place where it resides should be improved by its presence.

Each of my creations is truly one of a kind. I will never make another like it.

Making things from reclaimed or repurposed materials has been a part of my life for more than 50 years. At the age of 12 I cut and carved a military surplus wooden box to hold my first chess set. From that day to this, creating useful and appealing things has been a joy.

Each creation begins with an idea that matures over time. There is very little sketching involved in my process of turning that idea into reality. Usually any drawing is limited to clarifying a detail or proportions. Some of the heat curved pieces require a pattern but mostly they are formed by feel and eye.

Most of the time the matured idea sends me on a search for the right materials. But sometimes a piece of wood or stone or metal will shout at me about what it wants to become. The most fun times are when stuff just happens and something truly unique comes to life.

Whether simple or complicated, the actual construction steps are the most enjoyable when my skill and knowledge are challenged. There are times when making a piece requires a technique or skill I do not have at the time, so learning and practice are required before I can bring a creation to life. The drive for perfection is often supported by the spirit of some of the 100 year old, fourth generation tools I use.

Only after doing all I can to make an idea become beautiful reality will I give you the opportunity to possess and enjoy it.

At 12 I cut and carved a surplus box to hold my first chess set. Since then the years have brought me the danger of war, world-wide adventure, good friends and precious family. The intellectual challenge to improve and create is always with me.

Thank you for visiting our store. We want you to be delighted with every aspect of our creations and our business. A special joy is using materials and tools with a history. The woods we use range from cypress reclaimed from a church built 150 years ago to mahogany from a modern cabinet shop. My 100 year-old spoke shave is as functional as any modern tool in the studio. We welcome comments, suggestions and requests for custom work at info [!at] decorartplus.com.
