A lo largo de mi vida me he encontrado coleccionando piezas del pasado.... posiblemente esto se deba a unas vacaciones familiares que tomamos cuando éramos niños. Encontrándonos en un lugar llamado Red Mountain, un antiguo pueblo minero, una especie de "pueblo fantasma" y fue en el "vertedero" abandonado durante mucho tiempo que mi padre comenzó a cavar a través de los artículos muy VIEJOS y cubiertos de tierra donde descubrimos todo tipo de tesoros.... cuando tenía 5 años, ¡recordé claramente haber encontrado un zapato de botón y el gancho! Luego un viejo libro infantil de rimas infantiles.

En última instancia, mi padre descubrió una vieja botella de "medicina" que se convirtió en una especie de "reliquia" familiar querida. Las historias que contaría sobre cómo lo encontró, el hecho de que era un color que ninguna otra botella de esa época había cambiado. A todos los que lo visitaron se les dio una idea de su preciada posesión. Muchos años después, mi hermana y yo incluso lo llevamos al Antiques Road Show para ver si podíamos averiguar más al respecto. No podían decirnos más de lo que ya sabíamos... de hecho, ¡creo que teníamos más información que ellos! Pero al final valió mucho más para nosotros que cualquier valor que pudieran ponerle.

Incluso cuando era adolescente coleccionaba juegos de cepillos y espejos vintage, viejos compactos de maquillaje, etc. No para usar sino para mostrar. A lo largo de los años, estas piezas han ido y venido, pero no mi amor por las cosas del pasado. Así que ahora, como abuela jubilada de 3 años, paso mi tiempo mirando a través de tiendas de segunda mano y asistiendo a subastas trayendo estas pequeñas gemas a casa conmigo. Como mi esposo también comparte esta misma atracción por CUALQUIER cosa vintage, he decidido compartir lo que "nosotros" hemos encontrado con otros que también aman un buen hallazgo vintage, o posiblemente buscando una pieza de reemplazo, o agregando a su propia colección.

Throughout my life I have found myself collecting pieces of the past....possibly this stems from a family vacation we took as a child. Finding ourselves in a place called Red Mountain, an old mining town, a "ghost town" of sorts and it was at the long abandoned "dumpsite" that my father began digging through the very OLD and dirt covered items where we uncovered all sorts of treasures....as a 5 year old I distinctly remembered finding a button shoe and the hook! Then an old children's book of nursery rhymes.

Ultimately my father uncovered an old "medicine" bottle that became a cherished family "heirloom" of sorts. The stories he would tell about how he found it, the fact that it was a color that no other bottle from that era had turned. Everyone who visited was given a glimpse of his prized possession. Many years later my sister and I even took it to the Antiques Road Show to see if we could find out more about it. They couldn't tell us more than we already knew...in fact I believe we had more information than they did! But in the end it was worth far more to us than any value they could place on it.

Even as a teenager I collected vintage hairbrush and mirror sets, old makeup compacts, etc. Not to use but to display. Over the years these pieces have come and gone but not my love for things of the past. So now, as a retired grandmother of 3, I spend my time looking through thrift stores and attending auctions bringing these little gems home with me. As my husband also shares this same attraction to ANYTHING vintage I have decided to share what "we" have found with others who also love a good vintage find, or possibly looking for a replacement piece, or adding to your own collection.
