Here’s the cuff bracelet while it was in process. I’ve stitched the leather to the sides. Only the ends to go. Great ingredients that are fun to work with.

Handcrafted Jewelry Inspired by Nature

INSPIRED BY NATURE

My love of nature began when I was growing up in Ohio and continues today. As a teen I competed in Western horse shows with my Appaloosa, Holly. It was there that I met my husband, who rode a Quarter horse named Smoke. We’ve been married for many years. Luckily for me, he shares my love of wildlife.

Coyotes, lizards, hummingbirds, and even a Bobcat have visited our home in the Arizona desert. Wolves are my favorite animal. A highlight in my life was our trip to Yellowstone where we saw them. As often as we can we go to national parks to see the wildlife. Elk, moose, horses and bears are frequently featured in my jewelry.

I have always found rocks to be fascinating, too. Like a lot of kids, I had a school rock collection project, and I took some geology classes in college. My favorite parks are in the Rocky Mountains. When I realized I could share my love of rocks and wildlife by making jewelry, I was hooked. Natural stones like Jasper and Amethyst are my favorites. I love to use them in bead embroidery necklaces.

I've been a long-time supporter of Defenders of Wildlife, and more recently Wild Spirit Wolf Sanctuary, located in New Mexico. Some wolf items can include a bit of their fur, which was gifted to me by the WSWS’s director. The fur is optional since I know some people might be allergic.

HANDCRAFTED BY ME

When you make a purchase from Desert Dabbler, you can be assured that you are buying an item that I have personally made. I buy the components – cabochons, ceramic animals, beads – from many places, including park gift shops and rock shows. Then I personally stitch, string, or bead weave the items into jewelry.

When I became interested in making jewelry, I joined a beading group, took classes, and studied lots of books. Now I teach classes as well as continue to take them. It’s always fun to learn something new! A highlight for me was being able to take a workshop in Colorado with word famous bead artist Heidi Kummli. She’s not only a great artist, she’s a great person. I learned a lot, and had a fun and inspiring day.

In 2017 I entered the Arizona State Fair Home Arts Jewelry competition. I was thrilled when I won First and Second place ribbons for my work in the Beaded Necklace and Jewelry Set categories.

I sell locally in a Boutique that’s held the first Saturday of each month from October through April. If you live in or will be visiting the Phoenix area during this time, let me know. I’d love to meet you in person.

I enjoyed the Boutiques so much that I opened my Etsy shop in 2012. I love the Etsy experience. I’m a shopper here, too, so I know how much it means to get a purchase quickly. Unless you order a custom item, Desert Dabbler jewelry is made and ready to go. My husband is the "shipping department". He’ll makes sure anything you buy gets to the post office the next day.

JEWELRY AS UNIQUE AS YOU ARE

I love cookies, but not cookie cutter jewelry. You are unique and one of a kind. Your jewelry should be, too. Every piece of Desert Dabbler jewelry is one of a kind and handmade by me. Even pieces that appear similar are never identical. The handmade process and the color and shape variations found in natural stones make each item unique.

Each piece reflects some aspect of nature – from its beautiful rocks and stones to its wild places and the animals that live there. I always list and describe the stones, beads, findings, and other items I use. You will know exactly what is in your item. Some stones have been used in religious ceremonies or for healing. Because I enjoy learning about the history and legends that some stones have, I include that in the description. I hope you'll find it interesting, too.

Every February a huge Gem and Mineral Show is held in Tucson. People come from around the world to buy and sell jewelry supplies, stones, gems and more. I usually go there for three days and buy a lot of unique stones and treasures. (Too many!!!) Whenever a piece of jewelry includes a treasure from Tucson, I share that information.

If you purchase an item from me that you aren't satisfied with, you can return it. I stand by my work. I'll take the item back and return your money. Jewelry buying should be fun.

You deserve to have jewelry that reflects and enhances your individual style. I hope you’ll find something at Desert Dabbler that touches your heart and makes you happy.
