About

Holistic, sustainable farming- from beginning to end!

I have been professionally cleaning bones and skulls for folks around the world for 9 years. I use a method of bone cleaning called 'maceration'. This utilizes a natural decomposition bacteria to gently clean bones. This method creates a flawless finished product and creates an organic, nutrient-rich by-product that I return to the soil. I do not bleach or boil any of my bones. My dried specimens are always dried using non-toxic, chemical-free methods.

Most of my specimens are acquired as a by-product of the hunting and trapping trades, where bones and various other parts are often discarded. I am breathing beauty and functionality back into this 'waste' and creating an opportunity for folks to utilize, study, and honor these natural pieces.

My life and business projections are aligned; holistic farming and sustainability. We are going off-grid and all-natural. In the coming year you can expect to see more items that were home-grown right here on the farm, from the usual bones and feathers to fibers, crafts, herbs, seeds, and much more!

Stay tuned, and stay wild!

LEGALITIES: When it comes to laws and legalities, wildlife trade is serious business! Please check and make sure all of your wildlife purchases are in accordance with your local laws! It is assumed that when you order an item you can legally possess that item according to the laws of your state or country. If you order items you cannot legally possess, the Desert Rose Taxidermy will hold you (the buyer) responsible for any penalties and/or legal fees incurred by the company as a result of your illegal purchase/import. <--- hasn't happened yet, and I hope it never does :)
Shipping
ERRONEOUS ORDERS: I hand-pack all orders, and sometimes I do make mistakes. If you should ever have a problem with your order please don't hesitate to contact me so we can fix the situation.

PROCESSING TIME: Please note that most orders have a 1-3 business day processing time. If you need an item by a certain date, please take this processing time into consideration. I am very busy and am sometimes unable to process orders immediately.

SHIPPING METHOD: I ship all of my packages via either USPS First Class Mail or USPS Priority Mail, always with delivery confirmation. Domestic U.S. packages tend to arrive within 2-3 days, but can take up to 6 business days.

INSURANCE: If you would like to add insurance to your shipment, please let me know. On average, insurance is about $2 extra.
*Orders over $50 will automatically be insured.

INTERNATIONAL ORDERS:
All wildlife exports, by law, must be sent to the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service for inspection before leaving the U.S. They charge $100 per package to inspect. I've factored this fee into the shipping charges. This is why shipping charges on wildlife specimens appear high.

HOW IT WORKS:
When you order, your first item's shipping charge is calculated as $100+cost of shipping. Additional items only add a small combined shipping rate. Your order is sent to a designated facility in Seattle, Washington for inspection. It is then shipped out of the country to you. You will likely receive your order in 2 - 4 weeks.

EXCEPTIONS:
- CITES appendices species have higher fees ($300 per order) and a wait time for shipment. These species include wolf, cougar, bear, otter, bobcat, lynx, and a few others.
- Domesticated species have NO regulation or inspection requirements and can be shipped directly to you without hassle. These species include horse, cow, pig, goat, domestic rabbit, domestic feline and canine, and many others. Please note that some countries may restrict the import of domesticated specimens, always check your local laws before ordering!
Refunds and Exchanges
ERRONEOUS ORDERS: I hand-pack all orders, and sometimes I do make mistakes. If you should ever have a problem with your order please don't hesitate to contact me so we can fix the situation.

DAMAGED ORDERS: Once in a rare while packages take a beating during transit. If your item shows up damaged, and you feel that it is due to poor packaging, please notify me so we can get things straightened out! Some damaged items can be returned and fully refunded (including return shipping) or sometimes exchanged.

LOST IN THE MAIL: Items lost in transit cannot be refunded or exchanged. While extremely rare, this is an unfortunate circumstance where neither you or I am at fault. This is a risk buyers must take into account when placing an order online. I provide tracking information on all orders. Please remember that once a parcel is shipped out, it's no longer in my control. Claims of lost packages should be reported to the USPS by the recipient.

RETURNS: If the item you ordered arrives accurate and undamaged, but you wish to return it, you may do so for a full refund. I will not refund shipping. Please be sure to read all listing descriptions, including condition and item size. If you have questions you are welcome to ask before you buy.

INTERNATIONAL ORDERS CANNOT BE RETURNED OR EXCHANGED.
Additional policies and FAQs
REGARDING WOLF, COUGAR, BLACK BEAR, AND LYNX:
Etsy does not allow the sale of products or specimens derived from these species, however it IS legal for my business to trade and export these species. You can check here for current inventory on these species:
http://www.desertrosetaxidermy.com/forsale/

If you would like to place a custom order for one of these species, please message me on Etsy, or send an email to contact [!at] DesertRoseTaxidermy.com.
Some states/countries may restrict the import, purchase, or ownership of bear, wolf and cougar, so please check with your local Fish and Game and know your wildlife laws before placing an order.

OWL, HAWK, RAVEN, CROW, AND OTHER MIGRATORY BIRDS AND BIRDS OF PREY:
I get a lot of custom requests for items from birds of prey and other migratory species. Nearly all migratory birds are federally protected, and it is illegal to possess any part (bone, nest, or feather) of these animals. I cannot help you with your quest for these specimens!
