Announcement   Desert Sky Quilts shares with you a flare and distinct style of fun and whimsical handmade items - they are unconventional - ultimately unique.

I have been sewing for over 52 years and I started quilting after years of many different creative endeavors. I got my first "Sewing Machine" from Santa when I was 5 years old and I started making doll clothes. As I went thru high school I started ripping apart my jeans to make shoulder bags and skirts. I created hand embroidered designs on denim jackets that were gorgeous. I attended Philadelphia College of Textiles and Sciences where I studied silk screening, fabric dying, batik art, linoleum printing and photography. I've explored rug hooking, print making, tie dying, linoleum cutting, wood printing, embroidery, knitting, crochet, pottery, abstract painting, paper making, candle making, photography, stenciling, pinecone wreaths, and jewelry to name a few things off the top of my head.

I love putting colors together and seeing what I can come up with. Some things go together wonderfully and others not what I had envisioned.

I live in beautiful Phoenix Arizona with the most adorable, loving pound puppy. He sits by my side or cuddles up with me on the sofa. He is an assistance animal and the love of my life. I am unconventional, or I used to be when I was young and wild.

I am confident you will be delighted with your new quilts and other works of art you can find in my shop, and I ask you to return to Etsy to leave a review of my work and your experiences with Desert Sky Quilting. That's the best way for me to know that your package has arrived safely and that you are pleased! It also gives potential buyers reassurance that buyers, like yourself, adore their new treasures.

If you have any questions, I am promise to respond to within 24 hours, and in most cases I ship the same day you make your purchase.

Sweet colour with all the lovable bunnies with blue ribbon around. Fit just nice as part of the table's deco for the Easter. Thanks for rushing the delivery and it arrived just on time for Easter.

About

Quilting - Day and Night Left and Right!

I have been crafting all of my life. Some of the different medias I've worked with are silk screening, tye dye, batik, wood burning, linoleum wood block printing, papier-mâché, paper making, painting, using stencils, making hook rugs, candlewicking, candles, photography (printing in a dark room), pottery, knitting, crocheting, embroidery, embroidering with silk ribbons, macramé, jewelry making, and baking.

I have only been quilting for 25 years, but for all of my friends for every occasion. I started to run out of room with all of the quilts I was working on and making. Another crafter told me about Etsy in 2011 and I joined and opened up this shop. I adore the quilts that I make and I love sharing my creativity. Etsy is the perfect place to share ideas, dreams and treasures.
I work in a smoke free environment, but Jasper, the little boy dog, (as his girlfriend Calli calls him) knows the exact spot to stand so I can scratch his back.
He does know "off" and I swear he understands what I'm thinking. Animals are amazing and Jasper is a genuine Assistive Animal.

I PROMISE to respond to any messages I get with 4 hours. I ship the same day as you place your order. I can usually work in custom orders very quickly ... with completion by 10 days in most cases.

Frequently asked questions

1. Why is Desert Sky Quilt less expensive than other Sellers?

I pride myself on being very reasonably priced. I buy all of my quality fabrics and sewing materials when they are on sale. I refuse to pay full prices for anything and I use coupons whenever possible. My quality is NOT affected because of this.

2. What size quilt should I purchase?

A quilt's size depends on you and your preferences it. If you are looking for a Quilt to curl up and wrap around your self while watching a movie a 40" x 58" could be perfect. If you are wanting a Quilt to lie at the bottom of your bed a nice size could be 24" x 60" bed runner.

Consider the height of you're mattress, and how much over hang you like. Take a quick measurement

Baby - 30 x 40
Crib - 36 x 53
Lap - 50 x 65
Twin - 65 88
Double - 80 x 88
Queen - 86 x 93
King - 104 x 93

3. How is a Quilt made?

A. The first thing I have to decide is what I want the Quilt to look like. I will peruse some magazines or books I have for inspiration. Then I have to take measurements.
B. Next I have to go to the store and look thru ever so so many bolts of fabric and pick out the colors I want, probably 6 to 7 colorss and have the fabric cut. Next is to pick out the thread I'll want to use and then over to the Batting area to have Batting cut.
C. At home cut the fabric with my mat and rotary cutter.
D. Piece the top of the Quilt following the pattern I have chosen.
E. Square up the Quilt.
F. Layer the top, batting and backing fabrics and baste with pins.
G. Quilt the top, cut the binding and sew on the binding.
H. Finish and admire.
