Pursuing Purpose & Choosing Happiness
Ice cream... Ahhh those words make my mouth water! I could easily re-enact Bubba from Forest Gump with all the ways I could eat it. As a kid, I spent summers in the scorching heat of Ft. Lauderdale with two sources of relief, the pool and ice cream. Ice cream breaks were crucial among my group of friends :) We dedicated time inhaling our milky treats & then the cool down was over. It was back to the business of play.
As I got older, our family relocated to Las Vegas, followed by a move to the Jersey Shore. Conviently, we moved down the block from Mrs. Walker's Famous Homemade Ice Cream. A cute, 1950's beach bungalow turned store, was painted a pale pink & adorned with a large glowing sign. Customers lined up day and night, at times waiting an hour for a taste of frozen heaven. Naturally, when it was time to get my first job, I already had a place in mind. I spent two amazing high school summers socializing and enjoying customers, eating every flavor/topping combination in existence, and building my bank account for the first time. It was a dream job!
When I started to make my own ice cream at home, I realized packaging options are limited. It was a lightbulb moment, to design labels of my own. With the help of graphic artist, Jen Renninger, here we are! I feel i've come full circle in my adult life, hoping to re create the joyful union of work and ice cream :)
While I was reserved and scared to start a business, I have been faced with adversities in the past few months that have challenged my fears and put life into perspective. My husband is a professional athlete who was told he needed reconstructive surgery on his pitching arm, needing a year for recovery. My sweet, younger brother committed suicide after battling depression, leaving our family devastated. Soon after, a close friend and a huge inspiration in my life, passed away from cancer after being told she had a month to live. With all of these life changing events happening at what seemed simultaneously, I turned to God.
My recent experiences have encouraged self reflection and provoked my curiosity of life's meaning. With optomism, I have found that self belief/self love is extremely important, smiling often is a gift we can give to others, and utilizing our talents to create purpose through the things we love, is my definition of happiness. Enjoying the little things in life with family and friends is at the top of my list...and I can think of a better way to celebrate it, than one scoop at a time :)
Thank you for taking the time to visit my shop, it is really appreciated!
