Announcement   Ellie Wren is a custom wedding shoe boutique that specializes in helping brides design their dream wedding shoes. Ellie Wren's team of artists and designers work closely with each bride, learning details about the wedding day, the dress, the flowers, the destination and those details that make the bride and her intended unique -- details that are then used to inspire the bride's wedding shoes. Ellie Wren shoes have been walking down aisles the world over and, in addition to her collection of lovely lace-covered wedges and Swarovski-studded peep toes, Ellie's team has done some pretty amazing custom work, including the “Cloud Shoes” designed for Good Morning America’s anchor meteorologist, Ginger Zee’s 2014 wedding to Ben Aaron. Other unique wedding shoe designs include Ellie Wren's trademark baseball wedding shoes, originally designed for Yankee Stadium nuptials that have since been recreated for the coupling of Colorado Rockies’, St. Louis Cardinals’, Detroit Tigers’, Boston Red Sox’ and Chicago Cubs’ fans. Ellie Wren's team even has a pair of “rock climbing” and “pilot meets flight attendant” wedding shoes under their belt.

How the Process Works:

Of course, if a bride sees something she likes in the Shop, she can purchase it directly, but Ellie Wren's specialty is custom shoe design. The design process starts with a bride's inquiry about a particular pair of shoes -- usually, "I love this design, but can you do it in green instead of blue, with a lower heel and can I add crystals to the heel and a bow on the toe, so nothing like the shoe in the picture, but something truly my own?" Upon receipt of the inquiry, a member of Ellie Wren's design team will contact the bride to answer questions, share inspiration photos, and talk design details. As the design idea becomes refined, brides can elect to participate in The Perfect Fit (a program where Ellie Wren sends brides the base shoe to try on before the custom work is completed) or order swatches of the materials to be used for the shoes. Ellie Wren also has an in-house artist who can create sketches of the shoes before the bride commits to the final design.

After the order is placed, Ellie Wren's team of artists, seamstresses and designers get to work on putting the shoes together. The design team is in frequent and consistent contact with each bride, providing photos of the shoes as they progress through the design process (for new designs only) and sending out shipping and tracking information.

The Perfect Fit is a great concept and I'm glad I did it! Kerry was very responsive and understanding. I would definitely recommend trying it if you are nervous about ordering the wrong size!

About

A Note From the Designer: How Ellie Wren Came to Be

I've always had a entrepreneurial spirit and a desire to "make" things. I dropped physics in high school to take an extra art class. I grew up working odd jobs in my parents' ribbon factory where I loved seeing the colors and patterns come together in yards and yards of beautiful fabrics. I excelled at Home Economics and made my Barbies wardrobes to die for. And, when I was thirteen, I had a stand selling tied ribbon bracelets at the local county fair. I had a little cash box and display stand. It's one of my favorite memories. I got so much satisfaction out of it all and always thought.. I should find a way to make a career out of this...

And, then, I grew up and went to law school. Yes, I did. I know, I know...

But, the creative spirit never went away. In fact, it met my love of shoes in 2007 the two of them got together and convinced me to launch Atelier Shoes, a custom shoe boutique dedicated to mixing and matching fabrics and adornments to make truly spectacular shoes. I still operate it, but the light bulb really went off when I realized one day that what I really wanted to do was develop into a true niche--the custom designed wedding shoe. And so, one night in May of 2011, I sat at my desk and I built my Etsy Shop and played with all the fabrics and gems from my youth creating adornments for wedding shoes, inspired by the brides themselves... and my brides loved it and it's just grown from there.

For awhile, I bootstrapped the business and continued working full time. Then, my son came along in 2010 and my daughter in early 2012 and working full time, raising two children and encouraging a fledgling business became too much. I decided that I had to do what I loved, which is a combination of raising my kids and growing my business and so now, Design Your Pedestal is my full time gig. I am blessed. I know many people dream about doing what they love and working for themselves their whole lives and I am lucky enough to get to take a crack at it.

Frequently asked questions

Custom and personalized orders

That's our specialty! To request a custom order, just send us a "convo" through Etsy's email system. One of our designers will be in touch with you within 2 business days (usually faster, but we do work one on one with each client and that takes time, so please be patient with us!).

Sizing details

Most of our shoes fit true to size, but to be sure, we do offer The Perfect Fit program. Through this program, brides may try on the blank shoe to make sure it fits before we do the custom work. To learn more, click on our "Perfect Fit" listing in the Shop.

Care instructions

Our custom items are often elaborate designs, and much like your wedding dress, they are intended to make their debut on your wedding day. When you are not wearing them for fittings or portraits, we recommend storing them in a cool, dry place. As with all dyeable satin you should take care not to get them wet. Dyeable satin is not colorfast. With dark dye colors (such as blue, purple and red) you may experience some “rub” when you first wear the shoes. This is normal and will rinse off with some soap and water. You may request a water resistant coating to be added to your shoes.

Returns, cancellations and exchanges

Due to the custom nature of my items and the amount of time and labor involved in each design, we're not able to accept cancellations, returns or exchanges.

To assist brides in getting their dream wedding shoes, we do offer The Perfect Fit program to assure proper sizing, as well as sketches of the shoes that help brides visualize their design. We're also able to send out swatches and other materials. And, we send photos of the shoes as they progress through the design process (for new designs only). We have found over the years that this process works very well.

Please be sure to let us know of any issues with your custom wedding shoes or accessories within ten (10) days of receipt so that we may address them.

Customs, Duties and Taxes

We have found that brides in the some international destinations are required to pay duties to release the shoes from customs. We do consider this a buyer responsibility.

Wholesale availability

We’ve found that bridal salons struggle to carry any sort of inventory when it comes to custom shoes and so we do not work on a wholesale basis. However, if you’re interested in connecting us with your brides on a commission basis, we have rolled out our Ambassador Program. To learn more, please visit our website (www.elliewren.com).

Sketches and Renderings

We have an in-house artist that is able to create a sketch of your wedding shoe design with all of the details. Sketches can be purchased before the custom work is done to the shoes to help brides visualize their creation.

Shipping Services

We ship via USPS Priority Mail (Domestic) and UPS Mail Innovations (International) with delivery confirmation. Our standard shipping rates do not include insurance against lost packages. If you would like the shoes to ship by some other method, you must request that before the order is placed. If you would like insurance, you must purchase it at check out. Unless insurance is purchased, we cannot be responsible for packages lost in the post.

Base Shoe Manufacturers

To create our custom wedding shoes, we use a variety of stock bridal shoe styles, including shoes made by Paradox London, Benjamin Walk and Christy NG as well as some shoes we have manufactured for Ellie Wren exclusively. If you have any questions about the base shoes used in your design, please be sure to ask us before you place your order.

Rush Orders

Your shoes may take 4-8 weeks to complete from the date of order. Less complicated designs will take closer to 4-6 weeks and more complicated designs will take between 6-8. Rush production is $25 for shoes $200 and under and $50 for shoes over $201.
