Have bought this fabric two times from this shop. Living in Hawaii, I'm always gauged with shipping and loved that this shop used USPS--quick & affordable! Fabric has always arrived in perfect condition & is very soft. Items are shipped out quickly and usually arrive within the week. Would overall recommend this shop for anyone who needs to purchase some fabric for their projects! Will definitely be returning.

Very disappointed in the service and communication. Kept being told it had shipped even though it hadn't. After a month I started asking for a refund and was told it was on its way, but more than a week later I still hadn't received it. I ended up having to file a case with Etsy and Paypal to get my money back.

About

May All your Dreams come True

I love fabric, all kinds of fabric. Nothing is cooler than watching a flat 2-D piece become a marvelous 3-D creation straight out of the imagination.

Maybe that is why I took my first job right out of college at a fabric shop. Not the best paying job I ever had..... but it was one of my FAVORITES. I vowed one day I would own my own fabric store. Just had no idea how it was going to happen.

Well fast forward.... a long way forward from college to about eight years ago, I am sitting in my pajamas on my mothers porch. Not feeling so great. Just completed four months of intense cancer treatment. My survival like the ending of a fairy tale. Basking in the sun enjoying just being. Wondering what on Earth I am going to do with myself now??

Asking myself new questions, what are my dreams? What do I love? What did I give up to be the adult...going to work, paying the bills, and just waiting for the weekend?

I think of things I love; I love fabric, I love to create, I love to design, I love to help people...

Yes it is not enough to make my own dreams come true....

I want to help others make their dreams come true.

My mom comes out on the porch, hears me talking to myself. Why don't you take all our left over fabric from when were were designing and sell it online?

Left over fabric online? Hum. A fabric store...my very own. I love fabric, I love to create, I love to design, I love to help people and I really love fabric!! Yards and yards of it all my very own!!!

So up I went to the computer, in my pajamas (love that part about working from home) and created a website, then I made my first sale.....

That was three years ago.... our business has grown and our fabrics now ship all over the world!!!! I recently started designing again and you can see my work in the Designer Alley Boutique part of the shop.

I did have a little set back as the cancer came back again, and this time it was eight months of intensive treatment. During this time it has been a challenge to go through treatment, and keep the shop up, but thanks to all of you, your compassion and support, I have kept the shop open and have made it through chemo.

Moving ahead, we are revamping our inventory, restructuring our shipping process and getting some more help to make your order processing run as smoothly as possible. We are also developing a great team, to keep the orders running smoothly, your customer service to get answered in a timely manner, and we are developing a swatch department so that you will be able to get swatches in a timely manner!

The doctors and my family are very hopeful for my future and I continue to see Designer Alley Fabrics LLC as a huge part of that future!

Blessings to ALL and I wish abundant success on all your ventures!!

Four way Stretch, Two Way Stretch? How do I figure out what I need?

The stretch factor...one way stretch, two way stretch, four way stretch? When it comes to stretch fabric no two companies will give you the same information on what type of stretch your fabric is going to have. It is important to either call the company and ask or buy a swatch to check and make sure the terms match what you need!

One way stretch- means a fabric that stretches in only one direction, and usually not very much. This is also interchanged with the term mechanic stretch. Mechanical stretch refers to a fabric has has inherent stretch due to the way the fibers are woven and not due to a knitting process or to a lycra/spandex mix.

Sometimes one way stretch is also used to denote a two way stretch fabric. Which can be very confusing and is not an accurate label.

Two way stretch stretches two ways- across the fabric from selvedge to selvedge, and diagonally. This fabric can be a knit, or a woven, woven's usually have only a little bit, 5% or less spandex fiber woven into it. The knit goods can have as much spandex fiber as a four way stretch but still stretches the two ways. I have seen this term has also been know to be used for four way stretch fabric as well. I have seen this term used for this more in European fabric sites. Two way stretch works best for garments where you need stretch around the body but don't need much or any up and down. Garments like bras, lingerie, ball gown dress and other garments that are not required to go completely around the length of the torso do well with this fabric!

Four way stretch, also called all way stretch does just that..it stretches all ways selvedge to selvedge, diagonal and along the length of the yard. It always has some blend of lycra/spandex to it and the more it has the stretchier it becomes. This is usually the most ideal stretch for tight fitting garments that have to stretch around the body as well as around the length of the torso, leotards, unitards, swimwear, body suits all fall under this category .

At Designer Alley Fabrics we call our fabric that stretches in all directions "four way stretch". Fabric that stretches from selvedge to selvedge and diagonal we call "two way stretch". We never interchange the terms, so you know exactly the type of stretch before you buy!!!
