My name is Jess and I am a young woman on the autism spectrum. I create jewelry and sell them on Etsy and at local craft fairs. Designer Beads by Jess was started, with help from my mom, teachers and job coaches, in order for me to learn some job skills and have a meaningful activity now that I am an adult.
How it all started... I completed High School in 2015 and participated in Project Search internship at a local hospital in order to help learn some job skills. During the internship, It was difficult for me to be independent in the various rotations at the hospital so my job coaches worked with me on learning to make prayer beads. During the internship, over 180 prayer beads were given to patients at Community Hospital North and the Cancer Center and to all Lawrence Township bus drivers and transportation staff who were trying to cope with the tragic death of Amy Beverland Elementary principal, Mrs. Susan Jordan. At the end of the internship, my job coach and I created my Etsy Page as a way for me to continue what I had learned. I have continued my jewelry business at home with my mom and life coaches.
