Prescription jewelry for whatever ails you

Announcement    Welcome to Designer Drug Jewelry! My hand crafted jewelry is embellished with medical supplies and de-natured pills (embedded in resin for safety) to symbolize that Health Care, like jewelry, is still a luxury item for millions of Americans — statement jewelry that truly makes a statement!

I have been creating my jewelry since 2007, when my breast cancer was in remission but my out-of-pocket insurance co-pays were so high, they were threatening bankruptcy. I use my jewelry in my health care reform advocacy; I recycle expired pills to keep them out of the public water system; and I use my profits to pay down medical debts. My "lemons to lemonade" story has been covered on many Los Angeles News programs, NPR's Morning Edition, an NHK documentary in Japan, Global TV in Brazil, France24 TV, Dublin Talk Radio, and other media outlets.

I transform prescriptions, over-the-counter pills, vitamins, and supplements into gemstones by sealing them in resin for safety and durability. Since they come out of the bottle in a spectrum of shapes and colors, once they are sealed they look amazingly like rubies, emeralds, jasper, turquoise, coral, and other stones. My jewelry pieces are affordable because they are made with found materials and donated pills.

I am excited to be "filling prescriptions" in my Etsy shop! Please recommend my pharmacy to others who love unusual jewelry, care about social justice and the environment, enjoy political satire, wish to cheer up a loved one fighting cancer or another illnesses, or hypochondriacs with good taste and a great sense of humor.

I won my fight with breast cancer.
The outcome was surprising.
My cancer’s in remission,
But my debt’s metastasizing!

Health Care is a luxury!
My gemstones are all pills!
Now I have to peddle drugs
To pay medical bills!

My satirical installations and assemblages comment on art and commerce issues. I use my Designer Drug Jewelry as a visual statement in my Health Care Reform activism, and I sell it to pay my post-cancer medical bills.
