Prescription jewelry for whatever ails you

Announcement    Welcome to Designer Drug Jewelry! My hand crafted jewelry is embellished with medical supplies and de-natured pills (embedded in resin for safety) to symbolize that Health Care, like jewelry, is still a luxury item for millions of Americans — statement jewelry that truly makes a statement!

I have been creating my jewelry since 2007, when my breast cancer was in remission but my out-of-pocket insurance co-pays were so high, they were threatening bankruptcy. I use my jewelry in my health care reform advocacy; I recycle expired pills to keep them out of the public water system; and I use my profits to pay down medical debts. My "lemons to lemonade" story has been covered on many Los Angeles News programs, NPR's Morning Edition, an NHK documentary in Japan, Global TV in Brazil, France24 TV, Dublin Talk Radio, and other media outlets.

I transform prescriptions, over-the-counter pills, vitamins, and supplements into gemstones by sealing them in resin for safety and durability. Since they come out of the bottle in a spectrum of shapes and colors, once they are sealed they look amazingly like rubies, emeralds, jasper, turquoise, coral, and other stones. My jewelry pieces are affordable because they are made with found materials and donated pills.

I am excited to be "filling prescriptions" in my Etsy shop! Please recommend my pharmacy to others who love unusual jewelry, care about social justice and the environment, enjoy political satire, wish to cheer up a loved one fighting cancer or another illnesses, or hypochondriacs with good taste and a great sense of humor.

I won my fight with breast cancer.
The outcome was surprising.
My cancer’s in remission,
But my debt’s metastasizing!

Health Care is a luxury!
My gemstones are all pills!
Now I have to peddle drugs
To pay medical bills!

Jewelry that makes a statement: Health Care should NOT be a luxury item!

Welcome to Designer Drug Jewelry! My hand crafted, mixed-media jewelry is studded with resin-sealed pills to symbolize that Health Care, now a luxury item like jewelry, should be affordable for everyone. Statement jewelry that literally makes a statement!

I have been creating and selling my jewelry since 2008, when my breast cancer was in remission but my medical debts were threatening bankruptcy. I have been using my jewelry in my health care reform advocacy, recycling donated expired pills to keep them out of the public water system, paying medical bills, and having a blast.

My story about insurance company denials, and selling pill jewelry to pay for health care has been covered on many Los Angeles TV News programs, NPR's Morning Edition, an NHK documentaries in Japan, Global TV in Brazil, France24 TV, MBC's Good Morning Dubai, Dublin Talk Radio, and other media outlets.

I use prescriptions, over-the-counter gel caps, vitamins, and homeopathic supplements. Once they are sealed for safety and durability, they look amazingly like rubies, emeralds, jasper, turquoise, coral, and other precious and semi-precious gems. The pieces are affordable because I make them with found materials and donated pills.

I am enjoy "filling prescriptions" in my Etsy shop! Please recommend my pharmacy to others who love unusual jewelry, care about social justice and the environment, enjoy political satire, wish to cheer up a loved one fighting cancer or another illnesses, or hypochondriacs with good taste and a great sense of humor.

My satirical installations and assemblages comment on art and commerce issues. I use my Designer Drug Jewelry as a visual statement in my Health Care Reform activism, and I sell it to pay my post-cancer medical bills.

Designer Drug Jewelry INFORMATION

DIRECTIONS: All items are wearable and "de-natured" (sealed with nontoxic resin, glued and no longer usable as drugs or medical supplies).

FRAGILE: Treat with care. Store in a dark cool place, preferably in pill bottle. Each item is made with care, but please remember that the gems were once actual pills, which are fragile and their colors can fade. It is essential that they be handled, worn, and stored with that in mind. So PLEASE, do not wear them in the shower, or sunbathing, swimming, hiking in the desert, or doing construction work. If the coating on the pill dulls, brush on clear nail polish.

DOSAGE: Do not ingest orally, only aesthetically and conceptually.

WARNINGS: Keep out reach of children!

SIDE EFFECTS: May induce irony. If you feel urge to ingest pills, contact a shrink immediately, as it is an indication of addiction or self-destructive tendencies.

MAIN INGREDIENTS: Expired vitamins, gel caps, homeopathic supplements, prescriptions, and over-the-counter pills in setting of new and recycled jewelry parts and found objects.
