Dreams Realized
Fin dalla mia prima elementare alla Jefferson Elementary School, genitori, insegnanti e altri adulti hanno notato che io e mio fratello Stephen avevamo naturalmente talento in tutti i mezzi artistici. Dopo anni trascorsi e altri a venire, abbiamo combattuto l'asma grave dentro e fuori dall'ospedale. In passato, si credeva che qualsiasi attività fisica avrebbe infiammato i nostri problemi respiratori. Essere riconosciuti e lodati per qualcosa che amavamo fare mentre eravamo seduti era davvero qualcosa!
Dalla seconda elementare, ho sviluppato ambizioni imprenditoriali. Ho reclutato gli artisti di secondo livello nella nostra scuola per partecipare alla mia prima apertura della galleria. Vivevamo in un complesso di appartamenti e il sito perfetto per la mia vendita di un giorno era un garage vuoto per due auto. Non ricordo se ho valutato l'arte presentata o se ho permesso agli artisti di impostare i propri prezzi. Quello che trovo interessante e divertente è che senza precedenti esperienze di vendita o suggerimenti da parte dei genitori, ho raccolto la mia commissione nel punto vendita.
Ovviamente, il mio destino era destinato a me in tenera età!
Even as early as my first grade at Jefferson Elementary School, parents, teachers, and other adults took notice that my brother Stephen and I were naturally talented in all mediums of art. After years spent and more to come, we battled severe asthma in and out of the hospital. Back in the day, it was believed that any physical activity would inflame our breathing issues. To be recognized and praised for something we loved doing while seated was something indeed!
By the second grade, I developed entrepreneurial ambitions. I recruited the second tier artists in our school to participate in my very first gallery opening. We lived in an apartment complex and the perfect site for my one day sale was an empty two car garage. I can’t remember if I priced the submitted art or if I allowed the artists to set their own prices. What I find interesting and entertaining is that without previous sale experience or prompting from parents, I collected my commission at the point of sale.
Obviously, my destiny was set for me at a very early age!
