Announcement   Welcome to Devon Leather- vintage style traditionally made leather goods, hand made and hand stitched in England using the best veg tanned and English oak bark tanned leather, sourced locally from the last oak bark tannery in the UK, using vintage tools in my workshop in the heart of the English countryside.
I aim to produce beautiful and functional items that will last.

Please note: I usually use full grain vegetable tanned leather, with all the natural marks and imperfections of real leather. These are not faults, just the natural marks from growth and scars that are present in real leather. This gives each item it's own unique characteristics. I often particularly use full grain oak bark tanned leather which is especially firm and strong.
If you are looking for soft, floppy plastic-like leather with a uniform colour and surface, that doesn't smell like real leather, then this is probably is not the right shop for you! Thank you for stopping by. Please close the door on your way out.

If you have any questions, just send me a message and I will reply as quickly as possible, or if you want to see what I'm up to in the workshop, check out my Facebook page, which I'll be updating with work in progress and finished new items. Some items I sell exclusively from the workshop, particularly refurbished vintage leather goods and bags, and some prototypes, and these will usually be on my Facebook page. Do contact me directly if you are interested in an item on FB that isn't for sale in the Etsy shop.

I am happy to announce there is still Free mainland UK delivery on selected items and bags over £100. Find us on Facebook and Twitter for special offers. If you live in the UK but not mainland, please contact me for a quote.
Alternatively, contact me directly for a special personal listing with no delivery charge if you wish to collect in person.

Workshop hours vary depending on my workload, the weather and inclination so if you would like to visit and see my work in the flesh, please contact me to make an appointment.

About

The Art of Leather

As an artist, another day job is often required to keep you going when sales are quiet, or when developing a new body of work, so when the chance arose to work for a few hours a week at the local tannery it seemed to be just what I was looking for.

It was while working here in the office that I met a gentleman who had been a harness-maker in Wales, and when I expressed an interest in learning how to stitch leather, he very kindly offered to teach me the techniques of leatherwork, and I haven't looked back.

Now I do both, painting and leatherwork from my workshop/ studio now here near the tannery, from where I source most of the leather, so that I know that my products are truly Made in Devon.

Making a living as an artist was always my dream, which I put on hold while I worked as a Veterinary Nurse for 10 years. Now I am doing just what I wanted, being creative and having a great time doing it. Oh and I play the fiddle too.

Returns and exchanges
I take every precaution to make sure that the goods I send are not faulty and are described acurately, with clear photos, are packaged very carefully and sent in good faith.
These are natural leather products, often full-grain with all the natural growth marks and imperfections of natural leather. This is one of the characteristics that sets real quality leather apart from corrected-grain, chemically tanned cheaper leathers. Please do not mistake these unique markings for faults.

Please contact me if you are in any way unhappy with your purchase and I will endeavor to resolve the issue as quickly as possible. You should contact me as soon as possible after the goods are received, ideally within 14 days.

If you are still wish to return goods after steps have been taken to resolve the issue, a full refund may be given if the goods are faulty, or shown not to be as described. Refunds are not usually given for any other reason.

Whilst the full purchase price and original shipping costs are refundable if the goods are faulty or not as described, the cost of returning items, including duties and taxes for customers outside of the UK, is not refundable. Please ensure that you have read the product description carefully and looked at the photos to make sure that you are happy to buy before making your purchase. If you have any queries about a potential purchase please make them clearly and wait for an answer before ordering.

The goods must be returned unused and undamaged, in their original condition, within a reasonable time. If the goods have been used, and if they have been received for more than 14 days before a complaint is raised, they may be considered to have been accepted and a refund will not be payable.

For customers in the UK:
Goods must be returned by First Class post or ParcelForce with adequate insurance included. Proof of posting and/ or tracking should be obtained.
In the event that the returned goods are lost or damaged in transit, a claim should be made by you to Royal Mail or ParcelForce for the value of the lost item as a refund cannot be issued if the goods are not returned to Devon Leather. It is therefore important that you make sure that the insurance fully covers the purchase cost of the returned goods.

For customers outside of the UK:
Goods must be returned following the guidelines set out by your postal service or courier and UK customs.
Tracking and insurance for the whole journey, not just in your country, must be provided for any returns, and Devon Leather should be informed of shipping and the tracking information as soon as the item has been shipped.
If an item has been lost or damaged in transit, a full refund will not be given and you would need to claim against the insurance taken out with the postal service or courier. It is therefore important that you make sure that your insurance fully covers the purchase cost of the returned goods.

A refund will only be issued once the goods have been returned in original condition.
Shipping
I try to ship as soon as possible, usually on the next business day, and within 3-4 business days, using either Royal Mail or a courier. Where appropriate, I usually use a 3-5 day service that provides tracking and insurance, and will confirm shipping- giving you an idea of when to expect your purchase. Items being shipped to destinations outside of the UK may take longer to arrive as I cannot anticipate how long an item will take to go through individual country's customs.
For items of modest value tracking is not always available, but will be insured. If you would like your item faster than standard delivery, please contact me for a quote.

Please note: I often reuse packaging as much as possible to try to keep Devon Leather's environmental footprint as small as possible, but will ensure that orders are securely packed.

If you are wanting delivery to outside of mainland UK and you cannot see a price for delivery to your country, please contact me for a quote.

Please also note that for international shipping, any additional duties or fees at customs at the receiving country are the responsibility of the purchaser.
