My pots on Etsy were made over fifty years of working with clay.

I was a university professor who taught Ceramics for almost thirty years and retired just two years ago. While teaching I also created large ceramic murals in the city of Detroit, and made pots. I was so involved in teaching that I rarely sold my work except when it was part of an exhibition. As a teacher I could take time to experiment rather than produce the same work over and over again, which is why there are so many different forms included. I usually made between 6 and 10 similar pieces. The thrown forms are even in cross section, with sturdy lips and feet. They are well thrown, and not heavy. The slab constructed and extruded pieces are also even in thickness and not heavy.

Earlier, the work was fired in Cone 10 reduction kilns. After having built salt, wood, and soda kilns at the university, the work was fired in different atmospheres--most often my favorite--salt firing. The temperature of all these firings was lowered to Cone 6 about 15 years ago. I circulated a research project called "Glaze Forward" which introduced twenty Cone 6 reduction glazes to potters around the country. I forwarded groups of ceramic test tiles with Cone 6 glazes (and their formulae) to try to convince potters to fire at a lower temperature-- to save gas AND the planet ;)
