This is the 3rd time Dixie has created a artisan masterpiece for me. Its a labor of love designed to showcase this beautiful hand cut garnet. She did a stellar job of suggesting the best combination of metals to use, and kept it in the medieval design style I was wanting. I love the copper and brass combination and her fine detailed accomplishment in working the three different metals (the stone is set in sterling to best reflect its faceted reflections) into a stunning pin that will last for decades. I highly recommend her to anyone who wishes to create a unique custom artisan jewelry piece as she is easy to work with, very knowledgeable about metals, finishes and settings and truly takes the time to finely craft your jewelry from design to completion and worth every very reasonable penny she charges. Thank you Ms. Dixie!!!

Simple but complicated. Very planned out but come off as spontaneous. Elegant with a touch of rustic. I don't know how she does it, but the designs are beautiful, unique, and wonderfully crafted.

About

How I got to be an artist

Since childhood, I have played with various kinds of art, ranging from crayons through pastels and charcoal, to oils, acrylics and watercolors. I've done needlework, fancy sewing and gourmet cooking. I really wanted to be an artist but, somehow, making a living always got in the way. When we downsized to a home floating on the Fraser River, "my space" got smaller and painting got set aside. Then a flyer for a silver jewelry course caught my eye. "Smaller work space" thought I, so I enrolled — and fell in love. Although my husband's arthritic knee finally forced us to leave the river, its ever-changing surfaces still feed my love of texture. My jewelry pieces are often hammered, brushed, scratched or reticulated (I LOVE reticulation) to provide a variety of textures.

Several years ago, I tried setting up a web site. It ran for more than a year but I suspect my family and I were its only viewers! When someone at a local supply house mentioned etsy, I decided to look into it. I think it took about 30 minutes to decide to give it a try and not much longer to set up my shop. Etsy made it easy.

It has taken me a few of years to get the hang of etsy. I had a LOT to learn about product photography. At least my PR background helped with writing item descriptions. Then came getting involved in etsy teams, blogs (mine is http://dixsterling.blogspot.ca/) and social media. Meanwhile, I joined the Creative Jewellers Guild of British Columbia <http://www.creativejewellersguild.com/Home_Page.html> and continued taking classes, buying books and -- for sure -- learning from my mistakes! It all takes time but I still find lots of hours to spend at my bench, cutting, hammering, and soldering. The love affair continues.

About 15 years ago, on impulse, I enrolled in a silversmithing course and fell in love with silver and stones. Everything in my shop springs from my head and hands. I hope one of these pieces will become one of your favorite treasures.
