The Story Behind DnA Designs

DnA Designs is a real life example of how one thing changing in life, can make a whole new future.

In 2014, my father got very sick, and was diagnosed with stage 4 cancer. He lived near Pittsburgh, and we, (my husband, three kids, and myself,) lived in Harrisburg. It was our family's time to step up and help. This posed many difficulties, as kids were in school, and my husband was an over-the-road truck driver. Making trips to Pittsburgh and back became a weekly event, and what used to be our normal routine, changed dramatically. But our "Pappy" was sick, and that was not okay. I took a leave from work, and my husband changed jobs. We had support from families in both Harrisburg and Pittsburgh to help with the kids and appointments for Pappy, and we started the fight as a united team. Seven months later, it broke our hearts when the fight was over. We had lost Pappy.

We decided to make the move from Harrisburg to his home near Pittsburgh, where I grew up. We started to settle in, and find a routine again, away from the family we lived with in Harrisburg. Having a husband in trucking, and then eventually with a career into the steel industry, being a stay at home mom was necessary. Extra income was necessary too. So, back to my roots I went!

Sewing was always a skill I had. As a young girl, I would spend many weekends with my grandmother, fabric shopping and making whatever looked fun to create. We would spend hours going through pattern catalogs, and reading books to find what we liked. The time we spent together made unforgettable memories, and it always so much fun! I decided to take these lessons, and the fun I had, and put them to good use.

To start, I was able to work with my Aunt Vickie, who has an Etsy business of her own. Talk about a learning experience! She opened me up to this world of amazing things, and amazing manufacturers, and fabric! So much beautiful fabric!! But once again, distance was somewhat of a struggle, as she lives an hour away. So I started working on a plan to open my own shop, where I can use all the skills I had obtained, and continue doing what I love.

There have been other obstacles we have had to go through these past few years, but the time is finally here! Welcome to DnA Designs! I truly hope you enjoy what we have in the shop!
