Welcome to my Art Studio. Animals have always been an integral part of my life. When I was a little girl living with my folks, dogs and cats were attracted to our house. I cannot formally state that they were pets. Instead, I had many childhood furry friends. I can recall each one's name. Each one was special, Blackie was the one-eyed dog who, on his travels, would stop in to visit with me. I can remember hugging his big shaggy neck. He was a gentle soul and I never knew where he lived. One day he simply stopped coming to visit. Laddie was a smooth Collie mix who would come to play tag with my friends and I. There were many others, Tippy, Lady, PeeDee, and the cats.. My Mom said she was embarrassed to go out to hang clothes on the clothesline, because there were always 4 or 5 cats running after her meowing. These were my childhood playmates. Once I grew up, I could have pets of my own. I did not have to rely upon animals merely visiting me. I got to bring them home and keep them nearby. I was always drawing when I was a kid, even making paper horses to play with (other girls had paper dolls). These days I create paintings and sculptures. Grown up sorts of occupations, but still with the same intention; to be close to those creatures who play such a huge part in our lives (if we are lucky and understand these connections). I have always understood the connection because I had wonderful, patient teachers in those individual precious animal friends. When you commission me to paint a painting of your dog or cat, I hark back to those childhood days and see my friends in your pet's eyes. My intention is to capture that part of the soul that shines out from each animal's eyes.
