Feel it, smell it, use it ....

As an architect I love designing! Whether it's a house, a piece of furniture, a handbag or an accessory, creating is simply my life! As a maker I love making things by hand. I have to feel the material, I want to smell it, I want to give it shape.

I create by folding and forming one piece of leather until it slowly becomes a bag. The pieces are pure craft fully stitched by hand using the saddle stitch. It’s a conscious choice to produce the collection this way. It’s a challenge to make contemporary leather goods in a very traditional way. It’s my way of shaping ideas. Free of machines. Back to basics.

The collection consists of exclusive bags and unique accessories that stands out by its simplicity, its design language. Crossing out the unnecessary, keeping the essential. Simple, sleek and pure design. Timeless.

In order to ensure the highest level of quality possible I handcraft all of my products in my studio in Bruges, Belgium. All leather goods are made of 100% genuine vegetable tanned leather (bridle leather) of high quality and made with proud and passion.

I've been proudly awarded the title of ‘Maker/Handmade in Brugge’. This title stands for ground-breaking craftsmanship in a city of inspirational makers.

Welcome to Dominique Dufait bespoke leather goods.

I create by folding and forming one piece of leather. The pieces are pure craft, fully stitched by hand using the saddle stitch. All designs stand out by their simplicity. It’s simple, sleek and timeless design.

All leather goods are made of 100% genuine vegetable tanned leather (saddle leather) of high quality from a Belgian tannery. Saddle leather is natural cow hide tanned with natural tannins such as mimosa and chestnut bark. All leather is chrome free.
Typical is the natural texture and structure of the leather. Natural markings such as stretch marks, neck grooves, scars and veins are an essential part of the leather goods. This highlights the natural aspect of the leather.

In order to ensure the highest level of quality possible I handcraft all of my products in my studio in Bruges, Belgium.

    Care instructions:
All leather goods are designed and made to withstand a lifetime if you treat it correctly. The leather will age beautifully. At first the leather is a bit stiffer, however it will becomes softer by using it.

Only use saddlery recommended leather care of high quality (leather cream), never use shoe polish on saddle leather. Leather cream maintains the leather, cleans it and makes it softer. Apply it 2 to 3 times a year.

Avoid leather getting excessively wet. Softly remove any residual water immediately with a soft cloth, allowing to air dry at room temperature. Avoid direct heat sources such as radiators, fires or sunlight.

Avoid rough or sharp surfaces to minimise scratching.
Oil, grease and ink are nearly impossible to remove.
Take care of loose contents in the bag to avoid leaks and spillages. Dark coloured dyes from clothing can discolour light colour leathers and vice versa.

For long term storage fill handbag with bubble wrap or old newspapers to restore and maintain the bag shape. Place into felt bag provided. It is advisable to release straps and buckles to avoid impression marks.

Belgische klanten kunnen rechtstreeks contact opnemen met mij. Als je in de buurt woont, kan je steeds een afspraak maken in het lederatelier. info(at)dominiquedufait.com
