Announcement   donnadstore specializes in the ancient wire weave commonly known as Viking Knit or trichinopoly. The chain created from this age old process is light weight yet strong and substantial. It can be lacy in look and feel or display a precise herringbone pattern, depending on the technique used during the weave.

Every Viking Knit piece in my shop has been hand crafted by me, one piece at a time, so each one will have some slight variation which adds to the uniqueness of the work. It’s important to me that you love your artisan jewelry, so please keep in mind that nearly all pieces can be sized to fit.

I love to create gorgeous jewelry that fit clients with dexterity and specialty size concerns. Many bracelets and necklaces are finished with magnet or toggle clasps, or are strung on memory wire which requires no clasp, making it easier for those with dexterity issues to wear. In addition, the finished length for most pieces are longer to fit a large frame.

I'm more than happy to discuss custom orders or multiples of the same piece. Please feel free to contact me!

Viking knit starts with weaving fine gauge wire around a dowel. Once the rough weave is done its pulled through a draw plate to harden and stretch the chain.

About

Ancient techniques revitalized for the modern age

Hi, I’m Donna, owner/creator of donnadstore Artisan Jewelry. Thanks for visiting my shop!
I specialize in the ancient metalwork technique called Viking Knit or Trichinopoly – a wire weave that creates a light yet super strong chain. As I’ve researched the history of Trichinopoly, I’ve been amazed by how little the finished products have changed in over a thousand years. A versatile technique, this weave or a variation of it has been used for everything from jewelry and cloak adornments to fishing nets.

I learned the basic technique during a one day class, and quickly realized that this multi-step process could create some beautiful and unique jewelry. Changing the wire size, finish or technique completely changes the look of the finished chain, and that, in turn, sparks my creative genes, and I love that.

The love for creating Viking Knit has expanded into what seems to me to be the obvious second specialty in my shop – pieces that are created especially for plus size frames and those with dexterity struggles. We are all unique individuals that come in all sizes and shapes. Many of us don’t wear beautiful jewelry because we struggle with the clasps or we are larger than average frames. My jewelry is almost always finished on the larger size to be ready to wear, but any piece can be customized to fit your frame.
