About

My shop name came from a vintage "Dot and Ann" flashcard found at an antique store...but the real inspiration for my shop came from childhood memories of all the ladies in my neighborhood who were named Dot and Ann, Rose and Helen, Louise and Betty... They sewed for their families, wore colorful handmade aprons, ironed the cloth napkins that were used for "company" and loved to decorate their homes for birthdays, baby showers and holidays.

The spirit of those "neighborhood ladies" lives on in my Etsy shop! Like many of my fellow sewists, I first learned to stitch a straight seam from my grandmother. Lessons at a fabric shop followed, as did sewing my own clothes in high school, making Halloween costumes for my children, and whipping up unique gifts for friends. After a long professional career that interrupted my sewing adventures, I'm back in the flow that started back when I lived in Dot and Ann's neighborhood.

I love the gorgeous fabrics now available! I have my favorite designers and manufacturers and especially love retro designs...and boho...and everything with a shabby chic or cottage vibe. As long as it's still fun, I'll keep creating kitchen aprons, garden aprons, teen aprons, buntings, banners, cloth napkins, and other home decor ~ just a 2016 version of my old neighbors, Dot and Ann.
