About DovetailInk

On Etsy since 2013

Dovetail Ink Takes Flight

Dovetail Ink is the silver lining to a 2013 surgery that required downtime.

That winter, I started doodling around prayers I wanted to learn. I would put them on my fridge to remind me to keep learning and praying. The little piece of artwork would catch my eye, and I would pause for a moment and shift my focus to things above.
As an at-home mom with two young kids, I didn't have much time to sit and draw. Then I had surgery. Sitting was my only option. I officially dusted off my college art minor and started more contemplative drawing around prayers that I wanted to meditate on and remember. After giving a few prints to appreciative friends, I realized that my art could serve as a call to prayer for women outside my small circle. Dovetail Ink took flight.

I love learning about new prayers (Catholic and otherwise), saints, and cultures, and enjoy the challenge of tying them together in a bright, contemporary way. I am blessed to work with a small, locally-owned printshop that works closely with me to professionally run prints, notecards and prayercards that retain the feel of my original art.

I look forward to sharing it with you. Peace be with you!

  • Monica Welch

    Owner, Artist

Wife and mom of two kiddos, I grew up Protestant and joined the Catholic church as an adult. I started drawing whimsical illustrations to help myself learn beautiful prayers, and continue drawing so that I can inspire others to do the same.

Production partners

  • CBC Group: Christian Brands Catholic

    Phoenix, AZ

Christian-run CBC Group licensed my images to add functional, practical products to the Dovetail Ink brand. Their design and production experience led to the creation, with my approval and input, of reusable totes and journals - I could never have produced these items on my own.

  • P&B Print, a small locally-owned printshop

    Round Rock, TX

I trust P&B Print to professionally run all my prints, notecards, and prayercards. They work closely with me to make sure each print retains the feeling of the original piece, and are committed to environmentally friendly printing practices.

Shop policies

Welcome! I am a wife, mom and artist. I draw, paint, personalize and package hand-drawn art and prints at a desk by the window in our bedroom. I love having an "online gallery" on Etsy - and even better, knowing that my art is hanging in homes around the country and the world, turning eyes and minds briefly to things above. I love to talk about my art and shop, so please let me know if you have questions!

Additional policies and FAQs

FAQs:

Q: Do you sell framed or matted art?
A: Unfortunately I don't have the capacity to store or ship framed art. I mat and/or frame a few pieces as demos when I do local shows, and a few local shops are nice enough to try to sell them, but online I simply sell the prints themselves. One reason I don't ship frames is that the cost of packing and shipping them is so high - a much nicer frame can almost always be purchased locally, and my prints are standard sizes & easy to pop into a store-bought frame.
I *can* sell you the print and get it on its way asap!

Q: Do you do custom artwork in which the customer selects the prayer/scripture/theme?
A: Yes! Most of the prints I have listed in my shop were customer requests. Depending on how many commissions I have on my plate, the wait is usually about 3 months.

Q: Do you offer larger sizes?
A: Yes! I have a Wide-Format listing that offers a variety of larger standard sizes. These are professionally run on heavy, high-quality poster paper. Each is custom run and made-to-order, so the production process usually takes 2 weeks or so..

Q: How do you personalize the print?
A: I use archival ink art pens to add text or details to an existing print by hand. I do *not* do digital editing, so unfortunately can not remove text or change colors.

Q: How do I request a personalization?
A: Please select the "personalized" version from the list of size options for that print and include the details in the message to seller at checkout. I can create a custom listing for *any* print (most personalizations can be done for $5).

Note: If a personalized version is purchased but the details are not included in a message to seller, I will attempt to contact you via convo or email to get the names/dates that are needed to personalize. If I do not hear back, I will ship the standard/un-personalized version of the print by the Etsy "ship by" date, and arrange a refund of the $5 personalization fee.

Q: Do you sell digital versions of your art?
A: My watercolors don't tend to print well on a home printer, so I don't usually sell the images digitally. Occasionally I will set up a custom order if it's going to be professionally printed on t-shirts, banners, etc, that I can't do - such as for a youth or women's retreat. Convo me if you have something in mind!
