My grandmother taught me some knitting basics when I was 12 years old, but I didn't really start knitting seriously until high school. At the time, I was making your average hats, scarves, blankets and the like. In more recent years, I had started amassing doll knitting pattern books - it was like discovering a whole new world! It renewed my fervor for needlework.

I got my degree in Biology, but then went back to culinary school and began working as a baker. On holidays, I would bring in small knitted and crocheted gifts for my dear coworkers. Over the years, they always told me I should start selling the toys - but I knew I had to start designing my own things first.

So, I started doing some custom orders for friends, and discovered that I have a flair for what I like to term "knitted sculpture." My attention to detail allows me to create replicas of things you'd never dream could be rendered in yarn!

I specialize in designing items for boys, tomboys, and other quirky souls that are often ignored in the world of stuffed creations. I'm particularly fond of vehicles and other mechanical things - I see the beauty in their engineering and take pride in creating models to delight people of all ages. I've learned a lot while knitting my models, and I hope that you, too, will seize the educational opportunities presented by these items. It's not just a knitted plane you're buying - it's a chance to learn about and appreciate the history of flight. That's not just a stuffed fire engine - it's a way to encourage dreams! My most important goal is that my creations make you smile, because I think everyone - kids and adults, alike - could always use a little extra happiness!

Incidentally, my shop's name, DrFrankKnits, comes from a nickname that a friend gave me - Dr. Frank. I would always bring the Mystery Science Theater 3000 soundtracks into work, and she got a little confused about the characters of Dr. Forrester and TV's Frank. So, she mashed them up, and somehow that became my nickname. I also felt it was an appropriate name for my shop because it brings to mind Dr. Frankenstein - and the way I bring my toys to life starting from nothing is reminiscent of his creation of the Frankenstein monster!
