Entré en la escena artística a finales de los 90. Todavía estaba en la escuela secundaria y, aunque eBay existía, todavía no había nada como Etsy. Mis padres fueron alentadores. Me ayudaron a imprimir y matizar algunos dibujos simples de dragones que coloreé a mano y presenté a los entusiastas del arte en una feria local de Artes y Artesanías. La recepción fue cálida por parte de los mecenas y compañeros artistas, supongo que debido a mi edad. Pero fue suficiente para animarme a volver al mes siguiente... y la siguiente.
Hace tiempo que me gradué (con una Licenciatura en Ilustración) y me mudé. He estado en muchos más espectáculos y convenciones y aprendí lo mucho que quiero seguir haciendo esto, y lo en serio que necesito tomar mi oficio si eso va a suceder. Dragondust Studio, nació de esa poderosa necesidad de seguir dibujando las bestias de fantasía que amo.
Los dragones son mis temas favoritos porque no se ajustan a ninguna regla a menos que decidas establecerlos. Pueden ser caprichosos o estar basados en estrictas realidades biológicas. Es lo que los hace tan fascinantes.
I wandered into the art scene in the late 90's. I was still in high school and although eBay was around, there was nothing like Etsy yet. My parents were encouraging. They helped me print and mat some simple dragon drawings that I hand colored and presented to art enthusiasts at a local Arts & Crafts fair. The reception was warm from the patrons and fellow artists, I assume due to my age. But it was enough to encourage me to come back the next month... and the next.
I've long since graduated (with a Bachelors in Illustration) and moved out. I've been to many more shows and conventions and learned just how badly I want to keep doing this, and how seriously I need to take my craft if that is to happen. Dragondust Studio, was born out of that mighty need to continue drawing the fantasy beasts I love.
Dragons are my favorite subjects because they don't conform to any rules unless you decide to set them. They can be whimsical or grounded by strict biological realities. It's what makes them so fascinating.
