Prototypes and Fun Projects!
Dravon has been sewing for centuries... Ok. So I'm exaggerating just a smidge. I have been sewing for the duration of my life, starting at about 7 with hand sewing. After getting a degree in History (focused on Medieval and Renaissance Europe), I went to Santa Monica College's Fashion Design program to learn how to make patterns, drape garments and improve my construction skills. While my day job now is as a graphic artist, my previous one was selling sewing machines and teaching people how to master those machines. My business is as a custom embroiderer, pattern maker and sewing educator so here's you'll find a bit of this, and a bit of that.
I love to make historical and historically inspired clothes (read "cos-play and fun costume"), but I'm far from focused. In fact, that's entirely what prompted me to open this shop! I have so many things I love to make, often for the simple challenge of making them, and then I have no idea what to do with them. Leaving them sitting around seems a waste, as does donating them to GoodWill. My Etsy shop is full of these fun "because I can" or "let's experiment" projects which now need a good home.
Sometimes those projects are hand bags and the like. Sometimes they are saddle drapes or saddle covers. Sometimes they are clothes. Sometimes they are embroidery files, and sometimes they are even patterns.
My primary business is making patterns and doing custom embroidery. In order to make patterns, I have to make prototypes. I usually go all-out for these because they are used during the photo shoot to create the pattern packaging. But I don't wear the size which these pattern prototypes are made at, so ... what am I going to do with these really spiffy historical or cos-play garments that I can't wear? Post them here! Since they are prototypes, if you want that garment in a different size, buy the pattern and make it. I don't make clothing to order, though I will entertain the notion of custom saddle drapes. My patterns come with either printed instructions only or printed instructions with a DVD video instructions to accompany it. My goal with this is to empower you, the sewing enthusiast, to make high quality clothing which not only looks great, but acts like clothing.
